New Teaser Video. Halo 3 Campaign Extension?
hmmm...no OFFICIAL sources EVER said that Master chief was the last spartan, am i right? Bungie certainly never did, maybe you play as one of the other spartans, they can use the drop pods too, it's not like Spartans are banned from drop pods or something like that.
but i'm hoping more for an ODST, just throwing out some possibilities for you guys to ponder.

this confused me, does that mean they are counting down 12 hours till it is released? or something else?We hope you haven't dedicated too much time and stress to this 12-hour long countdown event.

They started the countdown 12 hours before the video was released. The countdown lasted 12 hours.AbeFroman wrote:this confused me, does that mean they are counting down 12 hours till it is released? or something else?We hope you haven't dedicated too much time and stress to this 12-hour long countdown event.
There's no evidence to support it being a Spartan, however. On the other hand, there is circumstantial evidence to support it being an ODST. If it is a Spartan, they are purposefully misleading the public with their comments. And no, to whoever is going to post it, Bungie doesn't go out of their way to mislead people in their marketing, so don't post your stupid post. I know one of you is going to do it.AbeFroman wrote:hmmm...no OFFICIAL sources EVER said that Master chief was the last spartan, am i right? so it was just a countdown for the release of a short video? lame...
and Sullivan's right, in the books i believe some dude began a Spartan III project, but they weren't as good as the Spartan IIs, they were made to be superior to the average marine by far, but not be as amazingly expensive to make as the Spartan IIs
but like i said, i still prefer ODST over any spartan. kinda sick of spartans makes the gameplay more mindless seeing as you're like an unstoppable supersoldier according to the storyline. (unless you play on legendary or heroic)
edit: the book was Ghosts of Onyx, Kurt was recruited to help train the first of the spartan IIIs (kurt is one of the spartan IIs) unfortunately
(SPOILERS!!!) on the planet Onyx where most of the book takes place they find something called a "Dyson Sphere" which is like the "bomb shelter" the forerunners used to survive halo, Kurt and 4 other spartan IIIs get trapped in there

why not? bungie could easily use the merge the storylines from the books into the game's storyline, they are both, after all, Halo
i've seen no plot points in the games to disprove what i've read in the books

There are continuity errors.AbeFroman wrote:why not? bungie could easily use the merge the storylines from the books into the game's storyline, they are both, after all, Halo

Bungie has stated that not everything that occurs in the books necessarily happened in the game's universe.
There was no sign of Spartan activity when you returned to Earth in Halo 3, so uh... no.
Well, in theory, yes, they could. But you see, they haven't. You are basing your assumption on something which Bungie has stated is not necessarily part of the game storylines. You missed the point of my post. Furthermore, refer to Veegie's post for why they couldn't, in actuality. You also did not seem to grasp key parts of the books, but that's not important, because the authors were given creative freedom. Bungie did not dictate what they wrote, and therefore it is not Bungie's story being told. You should not, for any reason, take the story written by a book author to be cannon in the Halo universe. Bungie didn't write it, it is not official story. The entire basis for your theories is unstable. The discussion is not productive, let's end it.AbeFroman wrote:why not? bungie could easily use the merge the storylines from the books into the game's storyline, they are both, after all, Halo
That's nice. Also completely irrelevant to what I said.AbeFroman wrote:i've seen no plot points in the games to disprove what i've read in the books
tl;dr: Bungie did not write the books, it is not their story. Stop making assumptions based on the story written by people who are not Bungie, it is not necessarily cannon.
God I hate Bungie announcements. Rampant, illogical, absurd, unfounded speculation drives me crazy.
Which would have absolutely nothing to do with this, because this is a Halo 3 expansion, not a new title, and it takes place in Halo 3's engine.sneakyn8 wrote:i seem to remember a magazine in borders talking about a GRAW type halo shooter wich is entirely marines i believe it was game informer but im not entirely sure

they didnt say it was a new game just a project but now that i think about it the halo engine wouldnt support a 3ps would itTural wrote:Which would have absolutely nothing to do with this, because this is a Halo 3 expansion, not a new title, and it takes place in Halo 3's engine.sneakyn8 wrote:i seem to remember a magazine in borders talking about a GRAW type halo shooter wich is entirely marines i believe it was game informer but im not entirely sure

Joe disagrees:Tural wrote:The authors of the books were given creative freedom concerning what they wrote. Do not take the information in books as being indicative of the games' storylines.

JS: The books are, for better or worse, part of the canon. In the future we may choose to revise or flat-out ignore some of the less appealing ideas (Johnson's biological immunity to the Flood, for example), but folks should treat them as defining elements of the Halo universe.

Even if that is the case, it is still not probable for it to be a Spartan, be it II or III, because then the events in the book are taking place during the time of this trailer, meaning it would be very difficult for the Spartans to be in two places at once, unless Bungie plans to be like, "Oh hey guys, there's this random Spartan that was mysteriously unaccounted for, don't worry about it." Any assumption as such would be as much rampant, unfounded speculation as it would be if they weren't canon.
