Oh Dear Sweet J*^@#! This is getting rediculous!

Post by latot »

****If you are fed up with n00bs please read and sign the petition****

I was browsing through the Modding General forum alone and I see all these super duper n00b questions flying about. Here are a sample few:

"How do increase magnification"
"Can you adjust the force of impact and explosion radius on projectiles"
"How do you give pistol infinite ammo"

Like come on! I know we were all new at some stage and there were't too many tuts about... but there is absolutely NO excuse now for not knowing the answers to anything similar to the afore-mentioned statements. There are millions of tuts about the place... SOMETHING has to be done about all this n00bness. They are starting to take over the place and you never get anything decent asked anymore.

So instead of just complaining about all this (like many people have done) I have an idea. I was looking around and someone came up with the idea to "test" all new-joiners. Well I took that idea and I expanded upon it. I think that there should be another board - a private, password protected board - that only certain people are allowed access to (like well-known modders and people that they know that are not n00bs... and if that works well then there could be a test for others.)

So thats the problem, and my idea of solving it, so this can be a petition for this. Please vote for an option, give some ideas, complain or just sign your name.

Thanks for you time.

Okay, yet another elitist opinion, when are you guys going to stop? Do you forget that these are people with feelings and not bots that are here just to annoy you? These people don't really deserve to be ridiculed and put under a sterotype as someone that is annoying and the most ridiculous stereotype ever....newb or n00b, I mean I use it, but I'm only making fun, you guys are taking it like its serious ffs.

Calling these people noobs seriously....is you being extremely hipocritical and closed minded, YOU were a noob once, would you have liked it if someone came along and flamed you when you asked a question? No, you wouldn't, so kindly shut up and just endure what you CAN'T change, people always come here, no matter how much you flame or insult them, so give them a break, like I just said, theres no point moaning about what cannot be changed, get on with it, its the internet, not some wasp that keeps stinging you that you can swat.

You have no right to tell people what to do/where they should do things, or what they are, you don't have the right to pass judgement on your fellow man and not expect judgement back.

This is how flame wars start, they are pointless because its just an endless cycle of retaliation, it doesn't achieve anything here, yet you pros think you are better than the noobs, when YOU in fact start all the flames and shit by provoking people that merely (come here for help I might add) ask a question.

Regardless of how many people ask the same question, just point them to the friggin answer, the internet is here for quick answers, if the answers are not in front of their face, most people will ask. You forget that not EVERYONE is a grade A surfer, and knows computers/the site well enough to search and search well.

Quite frankly if you can't be assed to help them, they wont be assed to search through the info, if you make an effort, so will they. Try helping people once in a while instead of being an elitist arrogant prick, or simply dont post replies to threads that ask the same questions.

Leave it to those who actually care about helping people and don't constantly put them down.

That being said, I would be stupid if I wasn't to realise that the only way to stop this crap is a quiz of some sort for membership to a private forum for the more advanced modders, then no-one will argue as much, I just give in trying to talk some sense into you apparently expert and pro modders.

This is part of the reason that friggin mono etc left this fucking scene, because of the way the community grew when you advanced modders started this whole "war" between new people and yourselves, its caused too much arguing, and stress, and because of that new people flock in for the arguments, get themselves bad names, and people start holding information back...thus the elitist crowd is born.

Instead of having the tuts available for all, just put them in some place they cant get to without some decent knowledge, at least let these people climb up the modding ladder, instead of flaming them out of the community and halting them.

I think Rabiv88 came up with the idea of a questionaire actually...I saw the post yesterday....

I sign this petition only because it is the only way I see forward with this....not because I agree...

Thank you for you opinions, but there aer a few tiffs I have with them.

1) I am not, nor do I consider myself, an "Expert" or "pro modder".
2) You don't seem to know the difference between a newb, and a n00b. A newb is just someone who is new to a site or a forum (which, btw, I said we ALL were newbs at one stage). A n00b is someone that say that they are good at something, but are not, and they repeatadly ask useless questions that have been answered thousands of times before. Having said that I said that I never said that all newbs are bad, just n00bs (because technically n00b is a negative word.)
3) I am not here to start a flame war. I did not flame; I merely stated some facts and expressed my opinions (as fank as they are) on them.
4) I am not hypocritical and close minded and I do not shunt off others who need help. I do what I can to help as long as it hasn't been asked a thousand times before or is seemingly simple.
5) "You have no right to tell people what to do/where they should do things" -> I know I do not have that right; nor did I abuse that right. I am not "Telling" people what to do, as I mentioned before I am merely stating opinions and facts. And as for the judgement> you have returned the judgement that I passed. although you are more hypocritical because you are directly flaming me... and I certainly do not try to provoke people> that is the reason why I want a private area> for civilized people who know simple things like infinite health.
6) "and don't constantly put them down" as I said already I do not put people down... I try to help them if they have asked something simple that isn't directly infront of their eyes. Having said that; you say that they ask because it isn't infront of their faces? It is infront of their faces! There is a tutorial page, a tutorial submission forum and proper tutorials! How could they possibly miss that!?
7) "This is part of the reason that friggin mono etc left this fucking scene, because of the way the community grew when you advanced modders started this whole "war" between new people and yourselves" < WRONG! Mono left because of the n00bs (not newbs as you think) kept flaming him and constantly asking stupid questions so he left (which is the whole point I am trying to state!)

Thank you again, and feel free to make another response :)

You completely misunderstand....but I'll humour this anyways...

1) I never said you was a pro modder etc, I merely suggested that people who complain about new people generally tend to believe themselves to not be part of what they are complaining about, othwerwise you'd be complaining about yourself....which is hipocritical with the topic you have designated here.

2) You are judging me, where did I say I did not know the difference? Check earlier posts of mine, you'll find I know the difference. Search by author and words regarding noob and newb.

3) Again I never said YOU were here to start a flame war, I suggested the reasons for them starting up. You assume that all this is aimed at you, judging me again.

4) Regardless of whether it has been asked a thousand times or not, doesn't stop you from helping people, like I said, if you are annoyed with a certain question being asked, simply dont respond...its that simple, let the mods lock/delete it as required.

5) I was not judging, but you seem to have misunderstood that, you have taken everything I have said as a insult against YOU, even though I described factors that are present generally.

6) Most people happen to miss them because sometimes, people may have been indirectly linked to the site, as I've noticed on various sites, these forums are linked to, thus you dont go to the main site, try and think about that huh? Not everyone reaches here by www.halomods.com, most people would bookmark the forum and come back with that method, not everyone is computer/internet literate, does that mean that they shouldn't come here if they have trouble finding something? Please....

7) And the flaming started where? From nowhere? lol, dude open your eyes please, the flaming started from other more advanced modders being harsh towards them, so as soon as they see someone who can do more than they can, they are jealous and start flaming....look at this from outside the box, even tho its comfy in there :D

Remeber a few things on a forum and your posting and experince will be much better, goes for everyone.

You are not your post count.
Post smarter not harder.
Give respect to get it.
Be Positive.
Have a reason to post.
You are not elite, there is always someone smarter.

Yep, common sense.

Honestly, I'm gonna leave for a long while again, maybe this place will get better not worse...it may just happen.

Yeah, I'm sure he's the first person ever to say that newbs aren't bad. I mean, you would know, look how long you've been here.

hay the only reason my mods are "noobish" is because i have the trial version of halo  Im still wating for the full version of halo to caome in the mail. And let me remind you, the spark thing doesn't work for the trial or map rebuilding or all that other stuff. I have been limited and thats prety much all i can do with trial so give me a brake   :x :( :!:

ok... my idea - some sort of rating system... people with a rating of less than a certain number will not be able to create threads in certain sub forums... this way, people can climb the ranks to be able to speak on the higher-intelligence portions of the forum...

I've had it with the n00bs.... why did I write WinHME GUI?!?!? WHY!????
