This isn't directed to any members in general, just more of a rant that spreads pretty wide...
I'm so sick of people making fun of 'emos'. Well, I don't mind direct insults towards them like "Why do they wear girl pants?", and such. But I'm tired of the widespread misconceptions about them.
For example, depression. Depression isn't a disease that only emo people have, you have to realize this. Or even sadness for that matter. Just because you see someone crying, doesn't mean they are emo. Or, just because you see someone who has cut themselves, that doesn't make them emo, either. And it's really sick to make fun of someone who cuts themselves, because it is not an easy thing to get through, and it doesn't help when you have a group of 'perfect' people making fun of them about it. Usually, wrist cutting is more of a habit, or something like an itch (metaphorically speaking). And until they scratch the itch, they'll feel like complete shit. Cutting is kind of like a temporary escape for depressed people. They don't do it for attention, you have to realize this.
And just because someone writes depressing poems, does NOT mean they're emo. I don't even know how to put this argument in to words. But really, there's nothing more irritating than seeing a kid reading a gloomy poem in front of the class and having someone yell "Go cut yourself you emo! AHurhrurh!". Not just poetry, but any kind of depressive writing/art.
I suppose the thing that pisses me off the most is, the ones who blindly follow these stupid things, and don't pay any attention to those they are accusing of being 'emo'; or those who don't even know what emo is for that matter. Emo is a fashion inspired by the genre of emo music. Emo music is a little depressing, yes. And they do sing about cutting themselves and depression and the like. But this does not automatically mean that everyone who is depressed, and hurts themselves is emo, and should be made fun of.

The people that I don't like ARE the ones who hurt themselves for the attention, because something minutely trivial happened in their lives. I've seen people go through it, and it's really irritating. I've had friends that have been really depressed, and I've helped them get out of it...hell, I've lately been feeling kinda crappy, but I'm not going to mope about it forever...I just say screw it, and find something that takes my mind off of things, like just doodling around in MS Paint or something.
And I realize that strategy doesn't work for everyone...some people, you've just got to be there for 'em.

I'm not going to enter the conversation because my points have already been made. But to sum it up, Emo is a fashion that was taken too literally and became a lifestyle/stereotype. The worst thing about is that you can't wear black (my favorite color), be depressed, or enjoy heavy music without being called emo. I'm a teenager, I get depressed. That is normal. I like heavy music for many reasons, none of which include making me feel deep on the inside. There's no such thing as emo.
