You can also download the .dds plugin that goes with Gimpshop from here.

.DDS Plugin

Put all the contents of the .rar zip file in your C:\Program Files\GIMPshop\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins

excellent program! I wasn't too sure how this would be seeing as it was a freware program beign compared to photoshop; but I have to say, I am very suprised, and pleased with its performance. I would easily recommend this to anyone. Maybe im over exagurating, but as a MS paint skinned, this program is AMAZING. GG

I tried this once, but I don't really like it. Nice post though. I think it might have been posted before but it probably didn't include the .DDS Plugins.

how is it not working?

go to save as.
then type the name you want to save it as + .dds to the end of it.
Then choose mipmaps and DXT 1 or DDS 1, i forget

mine dosent work it says if is an unknown file.......... can someone help me i have noidea how to do anything with this, i think it is the plug in thing but i dont know how to apply that

me. Its much better(IMO). Gimpshop is nice but I'll stick with the real deal.

Yes i have PS and yes I actually use it besides for Halo. I guess it's ok if your just gonna use it for halo...
