Assuming I understand correctly, you can browse for material libraries that came with Max by clicking "Open" on the "Material Library" portion of the Material/Map Browser.
From there, the default materials are in, I believe, C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max 9\materiallibraries, if you installed to the default location.

Could someone post a 3ds Max physique for the Master Chief. I have all of the bones in place, but I just can't get the physique right. The elbows and thumbs are giving me a hard time. I might need bones too. A physique won't really work perfectly without the bones that go with. Thanks.

In order to give you the modifier settings, you would have to have the exact same mesh (same number of verts, locations etc. ) so it wouldn't do you any good unless you were given the mesh. Which, would be illegal. Im pretty sure giving out a bone structure that doesn't have any of the mesh would be legal though. Except, you could do that yourself.
