They are mpeg four. Use PSP video 9 to convert them you also need to set it to the correct settings, we're all nerds here I think you can figure it out.

For the PSP system you have to convert the videos, in order to make it compatible for the system. Maybe you might have to do the same for an ipod, but perhaps with a different program.

Oh and if you want to make the file smaller, just compress it. Heres a good site, just download winrar. www.rarlab.com. And Click the add at the top.

...but if the file compressed into a .rar archive, you can't play it... you'd have to uncompress it (ipod can't do that) before you play it.
