What do you want in a Halo utility?

Post by ecko3437 »

Hey guys!

I've stumbled over into the Halo Discussion thread to ask you guys a question:

As the developer of Halo Messenger (a neat little utility that gets news from some halo sites and does a few other things), I wanted to go out with a big giant bang for the fourth and final version. I've come to ask you guys what sites you'd like to see Halo Messenger get info from, what functions you'd like it to do, and basically what you would expect out of it.

Right now I'm planning for Halo PC Server Status to be FINALLY implemented (taken forever), the Pysjnir Music Database is back, and, of course, news browsing. But I decided to come over here to see what's important to the modding community, because I want Halo Messenger to have something for every type of Halo fan, be it a modder, casual gamer, hacker, or your every day newbie.

So, in short, what do you expect out of this and what features do you want to see?

No. It is a Windows application (this version may have a Mac port! :D) that gathers news from websites RSS feeds, displays them, alerts you of new news. Thats the its basic function. I came to you guys to ask what else you'd like to see it do, what sites you'd like to see it get news from, etc.

Hey. I remember this, your the guy behind it huh? Keep up the good work. But try to make it feel more like a full interface to something really worth getting. Not just an RSS Feed, make it inculde awesome stuff. I'll get back to you with ideas.

Yeah, I'm hoping to do exactly waht you said, but I was wondering exactly what people wanted; I dont want put in what I think is cool, but rather what the community as a whole thinks is cool.

HM4 is going to be bigger and better than HM3... thats for sure.

Messenger app? As in, instant messaging?

I'll get working on the HaloMods section as soon as I get back from Mackinac Island on tuesday.

Actually, I suggest to start bugging the HaloMods webmaster for an RSS feed (I didn't see one) so I can implement HaloMods news alerting too!

I've already talked to him about it. Wether there will be a HaloMods rss feed still seems unsure.

Instant messaging? Hmm... do people really need ANOTHER IM client?

I've incorporated Bungie.Net web cams and some cool features for them like automatic archiving.

What sites do you guys want to see have news in HM?

Thought about it, don't have enough knowledge of that stuff to make it.

I could do a much more user-friendly GUI version of tool.exe, perhaps.

Keep the ideas coming!

Two words: Voice chat.

I'm working on it, and I dont see why it wont be included in HM.
