uvw mapping help

Post by Cheroke829 »

Hi,

I have just started trying to make halo maps. It has been going very well until I had to start attaching a base to my map in gmax. Before that, I had a placed a bitmap image on the ground via the material editor. Then I unwrapped it and made it all fit right. However, when I attached the base to my ground, it undid everything I did in unwrapping the uv. It is almost like it undid the process. To make things worse (and a hell of a lot more frustrating), when I deleted the faces under the base so I can make more polygons so it fits right, it completely screws up the bitmap image. Sometimes It just goes to a single color, others times its random blotches everywhere. So pretty much when I attached a base to my ground, it just messed the uv up. Anyone know why? I really need help on this so I don't pull all of my hair out. Thanks!

I don't know why it does it, I do know it does.
No worries though, just select your ground faces and re-uvw map them as you did before.

Also a tip for the future: first get your geometry set the way you want it before you uvw map things.

Use target weld to put your base on your ground. Uh I made this a habit. Skin then automatically right click the mesh and convert to editable mesh. That way its saves it. Heres another tip, I don't start skinning until im done modeling.
