That was an expression... anyone who has been at the scene for a while has talked to well over 500 people in the modding community.
i.am.terror wrote:sure we don't like cheaters but this whole theory of "professional" modders and earning this e-respect is ridiculous. do it for one reason and one reason only, fun. if your mod is a racetrack or projectile swaps or auto-aim or a well thought out skin/mod does it matter? no as long as someone is enjoying it. there are no medals for this, no declarations. be happy in knowing someone else out there might be playing something you put effort into and enjoying it.
Yes, there are medals in this, they're called emblems. Also, once you've been modding for 2-3 years racetracks, projectile swaps, and auto-aim get a little boring.

More tutorials please

Post by xptoast »

:D :D Dude dude. This is great. I hope you expand upon that list as time goes on. The listing of tutorials idea for GOOD tutorials is needed. We need GOOD tutorials. Some of the tutorials suck. I am looking for like sweet pro looking tutorials that dont make everyone go huh? Tutorials are meant for uneducated people in the area in which you are working in. For people just starting its a pain to ask questions of people who just flame. Someone needs to make a master book to like Entity 1.6 as well as other sweet programs that are specialized like ubervisualprojectiles and the contrail editor. A great index to all the greats would be awesome. Programs that dont jack up your mods and make them break. Sweet start though. If no one does that I sure will when I get all my resources ready.

Zone, your two tutorials on skinning show as examples textures that don't need to be made seamless. The vast majority of the textures you see in Halo are seamless, and neither of the tutorials cover it. I have written such a tutorial in hops that people will start making better textures. I think it ought to be included. I wouldn't have re-skinned any of the maps if I couldn't do that.

Good words, though.

Most likely it has been lost in the update. If not, I really dont understand why someone would remove it, it was really helpful.

How to Become a Respected Modder &
.::Why We Mod::.

I wrote this a few months ago to several cheating communities. I thought I should post it because even here I see new members talking about XBL cheating and cheating mods in general.
This is only directed towards newer modders, and XBL cheaters.

The definition of "cheating:"
  • 1. A person who acts dishonestly, deceives, or defrauds
  • 2. To act dishonestly; practice fraud.
  • 3. To deceive by trickery; swindle.
  • 4. To deprive by trickery; defraud.
How cheating is wrong:
  • Point A - As defined, by cheating, you admit yourself as the following: Dishonest, deceiving, swindler. Most don’t care about their character being defined as this, but to those who do, I hope you get the point.
  • Point B – Some cheat to raise their “rank.” The Halo 2 rank you carry is to show others your skill level on the game. In most cases, people desire to raise their rank for “respect” or maybe “attention.” The problem with cheating to raise that rank is: after you find someone that respects your fake rank, you will most likely play in game with him or her. After he or she finds out how you have received your rank, they will disrespect you more than one with a 10 point rank. You were better off before.
  • Point C – “Oh just have some fun, live a little.” I fail to see how cheating is genuinely ”fun?” How can one consider unfairly winning in a game over and over “fun?” An answer of this question could be: “There isn’t anything else to do.” If that is the case, then continue reading.
How great modders are started:
75% of all modders(Estimated) have started modding with cheating. Now, before you make unfair assumptions, continue reading.
  • Option 1 for modders – After finding out the possibilities of Halo 2, most will look for more advanced practical modding. Most will lose their immature infatuation for pathetic cheating. After that steps in, the modder then starts his path as a “great” modder. He mods to make the game Halo 2 better. He mods to enhance the game. I have taken this path, as have about half of the modders today. These modders are known as “Professional.”
  • Option 2 for modders– After finding out that Halo 2 modding is indeed possible, some will abuse the knowledge of modding to a ridiculous extent. Instead of maturing and realizing how one can improve the game, one will continue his pathetic expedition of humiliating himself for dishonest advantages. To those who do this, I highly suggest you turn to option 1. Below are some of the incredible accomplishments of those modders who have taken option 1. These modders are known as “Cheaters.”
The following is a quote from a very respected member of the Halo modding community:
Tural wrote:Xbox Live modding is bad. All of it. No part of Live modding should be tolerated on any site. Anyone wishing to do so is not welcome in the Halo modding community. That is not what modding should be. By modding on Live, you are setting the absolute worst example of modding that anyone could ever set. The same people that think they're modding "just" on Custom Games are the same people who hate people that stereotype modding as cheating. Kind of ironic considering that modding on Live is almost entirely correlated, in public opinion, as well as community opinion, to cheating. Live modders are their own worst enemy. Nobody who mods on Live deserves, nor gains any respect from the true community. Congratulations, you succeeded in making people stereotype modders to be like you. I hope you're happy that you were able to single-handedly dismantle any hopes of legitimate modders to be taken seriously.

How to start becoming a Respected modder:
Professional modders know and master all these techniques –
If you release a map containing all of these mod types, you will be creating a professional mod that will lead you to respect. Most of these are fairly difficult modding types, and are not recommended to beginners.

My Final Thoughts:

I post this to help the modding community. If anything you have read seems to you needlessly rude, ask yourself, how else am I supposed to show my concern for this issue? Again, I post this in hope of creating a stronger, better, more professional community. I hoped this has been help to anyone. Have a great day!
