Trackmania Nations

Post by [cc]z@nd! »

trackmania is a full-out arcade racer. gameplay is basically getting the fastest time on a track, and the tracks are pretty diverse, not to mention the track editor to create your own. cars don't collide with each other, so I kind of miss that aspect, but in return no player has the slightest of an unfair advantage, like starting on the inside of the first turn, or having a faster car. Also, there's all sorts of fun nonsense like driving on walls and loop-de-loops, although it's not so far-fetched it's just stupid; physics still apply, just not on you're cars internals, so you don't have to worry about redlining or busting your suspension.

oh , and it's free on steam: http://steampowered.com/v/index.php?are ... 1020&cc=US

don't know how long it's been up there, but it was like that a few days after i came back from spring break.

anyways, it's pretty addicting, and supports worldwide multiplayer. my logon name is zandi, so feel free to add me if you play. i guess i'm decent, since i'm 5th our of 129 in michigan last i checked, but that's just doing single-player races, i haven't tried out much multiplayer.

anwyays, discuss?

It actually looks pretty fun.
I'd get it, but my computer would explode if I tried running it.

TM Nations has been around for a long time. Hell, I think I even posted this a long time ago on users. Another thing that Zandi didn't add is that the car skins are fully customizable, The skins are all in .dds format, and with simple photoshop plugins, you can make and design your own cars. Such as my car. Sadly, no one can see it in Game because I didn't pay for it : /

Thats just it though, They released an update to it and it looks a hell of a lot better than it did a few years ago. Kinda like an HL2 to HL2:EP2 Kind of deal. Everything looks more polished off and finished.

I found it quite fun :P of course I always manage to lose.. But the graphics are great looking! I'm on full everything with motion blur, but I may take out motion blur since it's overdone a bit.

Since there is no blocking, the trick is to get the fastest line on each track, and don't be afraid to brake. I noticed that on some turns, it's best if you pre brake and drift through the turns.

yeah, there's definitely spots where slowing down a tad for the sake of control is beneficial. as for the skins, i never knew that, and cuda's already showed me the pics of the skins, but i just gotta say, it's pretty sexy.

as for tracks, i've just finished off on a mind-blowing obstacle one. once i polish it up a bit more, if i have time, i'll post the download here for you guys to have fun with.

It's an option in the Track editor, and they need to be .ogg files.

Yep I got it. Finished my track, but it needs some major fine tuning or a redo. Still, I know how to work everything now :P I think.
