I don't want to clutter the Happiness/Rant threads too much with CARSCARSCARS, so we can have at it here.

How is that a "Subpar" truck?
I'm referring less to trucks, and more to large and pointless SUVs and "crossovers." There really isn't any other market that tackles trucks as much as the US does, excepting maybe Australian utes from Holden or Ford.

Nope. What is wrong with owning a SUV?

In my opinion, vehicles made for transporting either people are cargo are horrendous in America compared to European ones.

As a matter of fact, Ford's whole European line seems far better than the US one. You've got your C-Max for taking people around, S-Max for larger stuff and more comfort, Mondeo as a large sedan, and the Fiesta as a compact (which is coming to the US). Not to mention, the European Focus is much better than the US one...

I just find the way things get done in regards to cars here in America to be pointless. Crossover. Oh look, it's a station wagon lifted up some inches to give people in Southern California the ability to fight blizzards, which are so prevalent there. There's nothing wrong with needing to take around five to seven people, either, but 99% of the times I've seen a GMC Yukon, Ford Expedition, or Cadillac Escalade pass by, there's one person sitting in it. All it seems to be is an automotive penis comparison.

Not to mention, they actually sell diesel cars in large numbers across the pond.

Those cars you posted links to are crap.

I would not be caught dead in one of those. Let people buy what they want to buy. Its their decision, not yours. Don't judge.

If people have the money to buy and maintain SUVs, then let them. My Dad has a 2008 Yukon, and only he drives it. He gets 19-23 Miles to the gallon. He uses it for business. You can't lug around An Auditorium worth of A/V Equipment and all the tools necessary to install and program it all in an S-Max, C-Max, Mondeo, or the Fiesta. Not to mention it looks a hell of a lot better when you roll up in a Yukon than some little piece of compact curved out Europlastic. Plus, as a driver in Southern California, We don't drive SUVs for the blizzards, matter of fact, the Winter features of SUVs are either not available or not on the truck. In SoCal we mainly drive in traffic. Why sit in a compact lego brick when you can sit in plush comfort of Wide leather seats? if you can afford it, by all means go for it. With gas hitting lowest in what seems like an eternity, it's a luxury that can be afforded seeing how gas prices have laxed. I do drive a POS 1997 Honda Passport, but with the space I need to haul around anything I'd need to haul around, I'd rather drive that than those Compact Soccermomobiles.

Lawl, car rant thread. I don't really mind what you buy or what you do with your ride, but always remember, in case of sudden emergency, brake really hard with no seatbelt on, it's a life saver [/jkfortheluvagawd]

I'm not saying that big cars have no purpose. I'm saying that it seems rather pointless for car makers to offer the quality of cars that they are here, when they have platforms that are better in other markets...from what I've seen, even small and cheap European cars have great comfort and build quality over there, whereas here, the belief is instantly "small car = fail." As for aesthetics, I can definitely see where you're coming from. Which is why Ford is bringing the next gen Fiesta over, but changing the design to fit more with the US design language

And Dr. Cox, I think it's less "spending money on cars they like," and more "spending money on the only options available." Which is why Ford is bringing multiple European lines over to the US...
Whereas GM merely rebadges the Astra and calls it good.
I'm not saying that people that buy big cars are shit heads, just that that's the way car companies throw the marketing at them. If the US had every car available for purchase from every international division of Ford and GM, I'd be very interested to see the sales.

I'm also going to chuckle when the sudden reaction in gas prices to the economy rebounds, and growing markets and stabilizing money situation raises them to a stable $3.00-$3.50, and there are lots of big cars out there just because they can be.
Spoilers: Fuel economy numbers don't affect only your wallet.

tl;dr: European market cars should be completely available in the US, and a sizeable chunk of people that buy big cars don't use them to their full potential. This thread also isn't just rants. If there's new cars coming out, feel free to discuss. Got any decent things you're doing to yours? Post away.

i love the british car line, even though all those cars look almost the exact same, they look purty. and then theres people with hummers which are the most pointless thing on the face of the earth, in fact, if you had a hummer in Liverpool you would be dubbed DUMB ASS because of all the one-way streets. you can fit either 5 people in a hummer or 8 people in a dodge caravan. hummers look like turd blocks, and i still think this is the best vehicle on the planet <- that was a link if you didnt know >_>

For Reader's sake, I'll only quote this. It's all about Sales. Honda pulled it's 3 door hatchback SI because of lackluster sales from American markets, but made a killing all over the rest of the world, same went for Renault, Peugeot, and other companies followed suit.

However, their current Si is doing pretty well...their whole lineup is, given the fact that Honda is a relatively solid automaker still, and not staring bankruptcy in the face.
That's why, for the US Fiesta, Ford might throw out the hatch form, and give it four doors and the rear end from the Verve concept.

I drive a '92 Acura Legend. The driver's window and the back-right windows don't work. I was driving down the freeway in the morning when my driver's side window magically rolled down, without me pressing anything. Wouldn't go back up. Got to school and my mom had to come get it or else I'd be late. The wind shield wipers are very poor at what they're supposed to do and my defroster is shit.

But man does the sound system do what its supposed to do. Love my car.

In America, is the size of your car proportional to the size of your dick?

Over 600 horse power and, to me at least, is the nicest looking production car available.
All for less than $50,000.

Are you sure they're going for under 50?...
Arguably I haven't the most solid memory of the price ranges for that vehicle, but I thought it was ~70.

EDIT:
The folks at Shelby will take your $45,000 GT500 and for just $27,995, they'll boost the engine performance via a Shelby supercharger upgrade, a Borla cat-back exhaust system and a cold air intake and then they'll work on the handling a bit by dropping in a Shelby/Eibach coil over suspension to lower the 'stang a little over an inch-and-a-half and then by adding Shelby/Eibach sway bars to reduce the body roll. In addition to some Pirelli P-Zero Nero 255/35ZR20 front and 275/35ZR20 rear tires, Shelby will pretty up the exterior by slapping on some carbon fiber, a KR-like Super Snake hood and some super striping and badging, then call it a day.
I stand partially corrected.
