I believe there will be a free, but more limited service for playing online.

So is this like the only way to play MS games online now? (well until May 8th?)

its really only fair that way. why should one group of people have to pay to play the exact same thing another group is not having to pay for.
and also, its about selling the game. would you buy it for 360 knowing you have to pay for online play if you can just play it on your computer for free every month?? (assuming your computer can handle it)

Microsoft already came out and said that the Gold service links you to you XBL account and you can receive achievements, and special downloadable content for free.
The Silver Windows Live account allows you to play online like a regular PC game. Just No achievements or free DC

Good job not doing your
research.
- Silver Membership Features
- Single gamertag
- Common gamer profile
- Common gamerscore
- Single player achievements
- Private chat via text and voice
- Common friends list and online presence
- PC only multiplayer including browsing a list of active PC games
Gold Membership Features
- All Silver membership features
- Multiplayer matchmaking with friends
- TrueSkill matchmaking
- Multiplayer achievements
- Cross-platform gameplay
You still have the exact same multiplayer as games like Halo PC have, you just don't get the matchmaking, multiplayer achievements, or cross-platforming.
Games for Windows PR director Michael Wolf said to Joystiq last year, "We're not crazy enough to think that people will suddenly start paying $50 a year to get something they already get for free on Windows"

apparently, there's still free pc-to-pc gaming with the silver account, but no multiplayer achievements or pc vs. console.
i can live with having a silver account. not playing against consoles means not playing against a bunch of obscene, racist 7 year olds. i like the idea of that. however, i would really miss official things like multiplayer achievements.
as long as i can play other non-microsoft games for free (it sounds like i can) then i don't mind. but dammit, i'm going to have to get vista somehow to play halo 2. and i need a job to upgrade my pc....

I think it's perfectly fine...as long as nothing is taken away from what we already get (broadly), then I don't see what's wrong with Microsoft charging for premium content such as new maps and such.

I think there would be something wrong if Microsoft charged for H2V:CE or the maps.

God forbid you have to pay to get a shit load more features than the people who pay for Live and paid for a game with less features.

PC's are much more modable than 360's....What of cheating?

But its still a good idea, however Microsoft will have to really push out good new content and services to make people actually want to pay for it...Coz like PC gamers are all crazy and cheap

I'm sick of Microsoft rants. Just deal with it.

Me too! When will you people realize that Microsoft is good, and your all just jealous?

Anyways, seeing as how this thread was based on false information, and you can play just as you can on Halo PC, I see it fit to be locked. Questions, comments?

Yeah...because you're not on one of the extremes either. At all.
Anyway, I've made my point...I think it's perfectly reasonable.
