Okay, new build, it will be loosely built on my friends 1500 though , btw, upgrading is possible easily for the gfx card, so you can crossfire the 4850.
PSU: TX750 Corsair: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... %20corsair
CPU: Quad-Core Q6600 <3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115017
Case: Haf 932 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... Tpk=haf932
Monitor: SAMSUNG 2253BW Black 22" 2ms 8000:1 REALLY GOOD MONITOR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... Tpk=2253BW
GPU: ATI 4850, really good version of the card, quiet and cool, looks good too. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814161246
RAM: Mushkin (<3) 4 GB 1066 (Looks nice too): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820146785
HEATSINK: Zalman CNPS and obviously LGA775: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835118003
OS: Vista <3 (Got a problem with that?) premium 64 bit: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6832116488
HDD: Western Digital 640GB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136218
CDD: Too lazy to list name, but is good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827151173
MOBO: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827151173
TOTAL: 1552.90 without mail-in rebates and shipping is basically free. C'mon, you can squeeze 50 more bucks in, and if you can't, change that processor to a E8400 and that hard-drive to 500 GB. Or switch the GPU to this. I personally would do the processor and hard-drive though.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'm still looking, and checking my options, so keep posting. (Also, everyone go ahead and post setups up to $3,300, as they were fine with that before.)
Also, I went to Dell.com and almost maxed out a computer that I was looking at earlier. Here's what I came up with:
Processor: Intel® Core™2 Extreme QX9650 (12MB L2 Cache,3.00GHZ, 1333FSB)
RAM:8GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1067MHz - 4 DIMMs
HDD: 750GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB
Screen:24 inch E248WFP Widescreen Digital Flat Panel
OS: Genuine Windows Vista™ Ultimate w/Digital Cable Support, 64-bit
Speakers: Bose Companion 2 Series II Multimedia Speaker System
Power Supply: 425 W Power Supply
Price: $2,856

If you have a friend that will put it together for you, do that. There is absolutely no reason for you to pay more for a brand name, I don't care if you "can" go up to that monetary limit.

Also, you might want a 1000W PSU if you feel like upgrading to 2 280 gtx's.
EDIT: I found a ibuypower almost the exact same thing as Tom's build.

Okay, as much as you guys HATE (and I mean, absolutely DESPISE) Dell, I went there one last time for the deal I think I'm going to get. I remembered why I was getting a laptop at first -- it's because I need one for school. So, here's what I've come up with:
Here's the specs for that:
Now, also, it has a really good deal with it. I get an Inspiron Mini 9 that I can take with me to school. It's only $99 with this deal!Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Quad processor Q9550 (12MB L2, 2.83GHz, 1333FSB)
Operating System: Genuine Windows Vista® Ultimate Edition SP1, 64-Bit
Monitor: Dell S2409W 24" Full HD Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor
Memory: 8GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4DIMMs
Hard Drive: 1TB Serial ATA Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache™
Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 3450 256MB supporting HDMI
Sound Card: Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
DVD Drive: Blu-ray Disc (BD) Combo (Reads BD and Writes to DVD/CD)
Speakers: Dell A525 30 Watt 2.1 Stereo Speakers with Subwoofer
Here's the specs for that:
Operating System: Ubuntu Linux version 8.04.1
Hard Drive: 16GB Solid State Drive
RAM: 1GB DDR2 at 533MHz

I'm assuming you're saying that the laptop is horrible?CompKronos wrote:don't get the laptop, run BSD on a calculator watch that should work
Well, basically, it's like this -- my parents really don't trust my friend to build the computer for me, and they would much rather me buy a computer from a company that they trust, like DELL. Also, my friend decided that if he was going to build it for me, then he was going to charge an extra $100, so I really didn't want to do that, and since I'm opening it as a Christmas present, then I would much rather open a computer than a whole bunch of pieces that I wouldn't know what to do with ... and couldn't get anything done with them until after Christmas. (I don't talk to my "friend" so much... usually only school days...) But, I definitely appreciate the support that you've shown me and that you care enough to tell me that I'm wasting enough with Dell. Most people wouldn't care wtf I do with my money.shadowkhas wrote:Ugh, if you really, really want to, go for the Dell.
It just seems pointless to me, as it's a waste of money.

no i saying buying into dell for the cheap laptop isn't worth it, even the calculator watch which would be God-awful whould be better so you could get a non-dell, the laptop actually seems pretty quality except i would get it without OS so you could install Ubuntu later and not pay service charges on OS install however you probably can't change laptop specs because it is bundled.DrXThirst wrote:I'm assuming you're saying that the laptop is horrible?CompKronos wrote:don't get the laptop, run BSD on a calculator watch that should work
