Oh my gawd. Big problem, what should I do?

So I was sitting here after school earlier today when my friend called me and told me that his mom would take me, him and one of our other good friends to the Rockstar Mayhem show in August, and I wouldn't even have to pay for it or anything. I didn't really know which bands were playing, so he told me Mastodon and Dragonforce would be starting the show, and the main bands were Slipknot and Disturbed. I pretty much creamed myself hearing this, but then I was back to reality and realized that my parents, as active Christians, undoubtedly wanting me to follow our faith, would never let me go to this godless show. They're constantly nagging me about finding some good christian hard rock, and frankly I'm fine with my current music, and occasionally I'll find some worthy christian music to download, but I know if I told them the nature of the bands playing there they'd give me a big fat no.

Now, this really sucks. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me, because here's quite a few bands I've only dreamed of seeing all in one show, and now it's for real, but the only thing potentially standing in my way is my parents and their faith. What should I do? Of course I don't know for sure if they're going to say no, but you can pretty much guess that if they feel uncomfortable with me listening to any kind of secular music on my Zen, there's little chance they're going to let me see all these secular bands, live.

Underoath is playing there, and they're christian, and I could tell my parents that and that might help a little, but they're one of the minor bands and there's still a lot of ungodly ones playing anyway. You guys got any suggestions? I REALLY don't want to miss this opportunity, so I'm going to need to make a damn good proposal to my parents if I have any hope of going to this thing.

Discretely play some Dimmu Borgir, or something while they sleep for a week or so. Through the magic of the subconscious, they'll be screaming "HAIL SATAN!" in no time.

Tell them you're going to see Underoath, and that's it. Don't tell them about anything else. Just that you're going to see some nice Christian boys play some wonderful god-fearing music.

Or you could do this and they won't let you go and they'll take away all your devil music.

Tell them if they want to be strict Christians thats cool. But your not one. I assume you live in a country that has freedom of religion, use your rights. Your not going off worshiping satan and joining a cult. Your going to a rock concert with an adult and theres thousands of other people there. My family is Christian, I however am Athiest. Be strict with em and don't accept there crazy religious mumbo jumbo... If all else fails, say "Tho shall not impose there religion on others." Its not a real thing from the bible but it raises a good point. I personally can't stand highly religious people, especially those that listen to Christian rock.... That music sucks sooooooooooooo bad.

Also funny thing is Disturbed seems satanic. However there actually a quite religious Christian band. Might want to tell em that.

x2! Tell them that you only live once. Also say that if they raised you right, they wouldent have to worry about you doing drugs or anything.

Hey, I am Christian, it's not like I'm a rebel and want to follow something other than my parents. I do respect them for wanting me to listen to christian music, but if they say no to this, which they probably will, it's only this one time, and I really want to go because it's a once in a lifetime opportunity. I want them to be ok with me going, if they absolutely put their foot down and scream no into my face, I guess I'm not going, but I'm definitely not happy about it. So I all I want them to say is yes, that's it. It's fine if they're like "well, you can go, but we're very skeptical and worried blah blah blah..." whatever. But I do want them to say yes. And uh, there is some good christian music. Not much, at all, but there is some.

And yeah, David Draiman is jewish. I could tell them that too.

Yelling at them won't work. I can guaran-damn-tee you if they say no and I start screaming, any trace of a chance I still had of going will be gone. It doesn't matter how upset I show them that I am, it's not like they see me breaking down and say "oh, well, I can see that you really do want to go to this thing. Ok, I guess you can go, just stop yelling at us." If anything, they'd get the impression that I'm addicted to that kind of music or something and they'd take that away as well.

Explanations always work.
Explain to them that it's free, and it's all of your favorite bands at one show.
Tell them that you thought they'd understand, etc.

Yeah, just sit them down and explain how much it means to you. List off all reasons for you and explain to them everything about it. A once in a lifetime chance, good bands, fun with friends, good security, just list everything. Then talk about Underoath (or whatever its called) and how they're Christian, how metal music can still be Christian and that this 'devil music' shit is non-existant at these shows. I mean, Christ, go and read them some of the lyrics (look up old, Prayer/Believe era Disturbed). Try to prove that the metal music they're thinking of does not exist at these kinds of shows. I was gonna go to the Mayhem Festival in Seattle but I'm gonna see Machine Head, Mastodon, and Black Tide (

) in Portland seperately.

Edit: What the fuck does religion have to do with any of this? The show and the bands aren't trying to impose their beliefs on you. It's all about listening to the music you like and having fun. How is this show godless? Because religion isn't incorporated into it?

haha if that concert was near my home and my parents said no i would be there in a heart beat anyways
but tell your parents that you respect that they want you to listen to christian music, and you will look into some of the songs from the genre. and say that if they really cared about you they would let you go to this one (possibly more) concert.

I am a christian too. Now what you need to do is first get them in a good mood. A joking mood. Then make a joke out of it and see their reaction. Meh thats what i do. Plus if i want something...I ask my dad.

As an ex Christian of 8 years, there's one thing I've learned when you have a problem: avoid it! Since your problem is your parents, ignore what they say. Besides, you can always "confess" your "sins" later.

That and parents should not decide what religion they want their children to follow, the child should be able to decide on their own.
