I have nothing against smokers...the only one I know is my dad, and I just lightly encourage him to try to get off it...he's actually done pretty good, he went from around 3 or 4 a day to maybe one hand-rolled one with about half the tobacco as in a store-bought one.
I agree that making them go totally outside is stupid. Indoor smoking areas are just fine in my opinion, and my lungs get REALLY irritated by smoke, so some people think I'd be biased.

Since smoking was banned inside bars and restarants in England, people now tend to loiter outside of them when they need a smoke.. and it looks pretty disgusting actually. You see a nice restaurant, and then your eyes locate the entrance and there's a bunch of people there all smoking, with a massive cloud of smoke just above them >_> (..very off putting = bad for business).-DeToX- wrote:Still... Its ridiculous that they even banned smoking outside... Smoking inside in public buildings could be disallowed, but smoking outside being disallowed is ridiculous...
Walking a couple of blocks to smoke is stupid.
Iron_Forge where is that taking place?
Which is perhaps the reason for having to walk a couple of blocks in that case^^. Outside is still, after all, a public environment. The only difference is that your less likely to breath in as much smoke, as it goes straight up, opposed to around and around the room..that does mean though that it instead destroys the ozone layer and contributes to global warming...but as long as you can smoke right?..

Well, I work at a hospital...But that being said, the same "no where on our premises" rule applies to factories and other offices around my area...And yes I'm aware that smoking irritates all your virgin lungs, the point is that you're not forced to sit near or around anyone who smokes...You always have the right to get up, and walk away...My problem is that most people seem to feel they have the right to tell you to put it out, or go away...
And I've never agreed with the "smoking costs our health care money!" propaganda we have in Canada (due to our tax subsidized health care)...The stats are completely biased...When someone dies, a question is asked of "did they smoke?", if the answer is yes, than the statistics of smoking killing people goes up...If they didn't, then they ask "did someone they were around smoke?"...If the answer is yes, the statistics of smoking being a killer goes up...It's as simple as that...At some point in history, someone did a study, and found that smoking increases your chances of cancer...So now every cancer, and other death which has its chances increased by smoking, is now caused by smoking...
There are lots of people who smoke all their life, and never get cancer, or die of a smoking related illness...There are lots of people who die of cancer and smoking related illnesses, who never smoked a day in their life...But because one increases the risk of the other, if you die from it, it must have been the smokings fault...
And being a hippy didn't make you smoke, everyone smoked back then...Just like lots of kids still smoke today...It calms the nerves...Hippies are just stupid socialists who want to "save the planet from the evil bad guys" who think they know best, and try to push their hippy ideals on you...Damned hippies...

Exactly, that's what I do, I just walk past someone if they do smoke, and if they sit next to me, I go somewhere else. I don't know the person, and while I don't agree with what they're doing, I don't go crazy about it.Iron_Forge wrote:And yes I'm aware that smoking irritates all your virgin lungs, the point is that you're not forced to sit near or around anyone who smokes...You always have the right to get up, and walk away...

I would consider it pretty offensive if a total stranger just sat down next to me, and then lit up a cigarette..and the smoke was wafting all over me..you know, dude I was here first..piss off man...
If though he was there before me, and only lit up once I'd sat down. I'd still see it as pretty disrespectful. Smoking has been proved to be damaging to your health, so what would make you think the people on your left and right wouldn't mind..

if they made a cigarrette that smelled good to people around, then i wouldn't care all that much, but cigarrettes now smell so bad, even when you just walk by someone who is smoking, and it pisses me off.
Your sig can't exceed 500x120 and 75kb in file size.

I don't know about smelling good, but they are supposed to smell better then normal ones. I agree with Iron_Forge, I am around smokers all the time, and I really don't care if I end up getting cancer at 90. But I also agree with Prey about people who just walk up to you and start blowing smoke in your face if you were there first.

Aparrently, those Cigarettes put people off smoking. As I've learned from my friend.Ombre wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menthol_cigaretteauerhantheman1 wrote:if they made a cigarrette that smelled good to people around, then i wouldn't care all that much, but cigarrettes now smell so bad, even when you just walk by someone who is smoking, and it pisses me off.

To be fair, these smokers aren't the live and let live breed of people I was talking about...They're just assholes...Just as much as I wouldn't want a non smoker coming up, and touching me...I'm not for or against smokers, I'm for free rights, that if an area is smoking, people can smoke there...You shouldn't have sat down in the smoking area in the first place...But just cause someone does it, doesn't mean everyone should rally together and make sure no one can smoke there ever again...Well, I agree with rallying together, the problem is the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and it's always a small portion complaining alot, forcing their rules on everyone...If 60% of people at some bar wanted it smoke free, then it should be smoke free...But the ratio is never near there...I can't count the number of times I had to stand in the cold because I wanted to talk with a friend, who happened to smoke...Persecuted to be out there by hippies!..Ombre wrote:I agree with Iron_Forge, I am around smokers all the time, and I really don't care if I end up getting cancer at 90. Heh, my hatred of smokers comes from my friends, if they were to light one up while we are all speaking and doing whatever, that's when I act rudley (and its the smell, not the fear of cancer
everything gives people cancer says the news anyway, I'm sure I'll get it from coming here too). That is the time where it is invading our space. Most of us don't like it so I or they tell said smoker/smokers to move (there's that rude manner part ;p). Potty training really, as most of them have learnt not to do that now. Its not towards other people and their smoking zones (or lack of) as I don't actually go to those zones...
I should be more specific not to get a rant from Iron_Forge.

But the principle of having a place where you were once comfortable be taken away from you, just so someone else can't find a way to enjoy a place the way it already is without lowering your health quality. That's what gets me.Iron_Forge wrote:You always have the right to get up, and walk away...My problem is that most people seem to feel they have the right to tell you to put it out, or go away...
