Strange Weather

Post by RaVNzCRoFT »

The weather's been particularly weird here recently...I'm home from school for the day. It's about 30 degrees Fahrenheit and we got a half an inch of snow last night. The one thing I love about North Carolina is that people just don't know how to drive with snow and ice. Any amount of snow here pretty much guarantees a school closing or delay. I used to live in a small town of about 23,000 in Connecticut. It always snowed there in the winter, and nothing less than six inches of snow would even delay the schools an hour or two. A few feet would close schools for a couple of days. I was wondering what the weather was like elsewhere throughout the country, or even the world. Is it weird over on the west coast too?

Yeah, the weather has been wierd here as well. I live in Northern California where it's usually pretty mild; supposedly it's supposed to snow about every 7 years, but I've lived here for 14 and haven't seen it happen once. But this year, it might happen. It has been really cold the last few weeks (around 28 Fahrenheit), it's the coldest it's ever been here (that I can remember). There was ice on the sidewalk when I walked to work on Monday - that's never happened before. I have a feeling that if it rains, it will snow. Although the skies have been really clear lately, even though it's freezing cold. I hope it snows, we'd be sure to get school out because it's never snowed here.

If that's a small town, everyone in my state lives in a microscopic town.

But it's been extremely cold lately, and a little snowy. Highs of about 10, lows of about -20. It got down to -33 with windchill one night.

There's probably 8 inches on the ground accumulated (we had 3 good snow sessions, and the snow never melted). But it's cool, because the snow plows came by and scraped all the snow into a 2.5 ft wall in the middle of the street which is slightly hilarious watching people in SUVs plow through them. Most of that snow is dispersed on the street again. Also, no snowdays, we had 1, but it was only because it was so incredibly cold with the wind, and the fog and snow made it almost impossible to see. Hopefully it will start warming up around the country soon.

I'm in new jersey and our dense cloud of pollution has kept snow out all year lol. Today it snowed maybe an inch or so.

There's 100 mile an hour winds in germany. several hurricanes over the past years. The ice caps are melting. China can knock down our satalites now with thier new space missle program. and Mrs. clinton plans to run for presedent!

What's next zombies!??!?

I just got a report from firefox that the New England area will be pounded for at least a day with 40 mph wind with wind chill reaching -15 F.

I pray the power doesn't go out...
EVENING.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TAUNTON HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND
WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 10 PM EST THIS
EVENING. THE HIGH WIND WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

THE WARNING INCLUDES SOUTH CENTRAL NEW HAMPSHIRE...MUCH OF NORTHERN
AND WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS.

A STRONG POLAR COLD FRONT PUSHING SOUTHEAST FROM NORTHERN SECTIONS OF
NEW YORK STATE AND NEW ENGLAND HAS BANDS OF SNOW SHOWERS AHEAD OF IT...
AND VERY DRY COLD AIR BEHIND IT.

AS THE FRONT CROSSES SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND DURING MIDDAY...GUSTY WEST
WINDS WILL INCREASE PAST 45 MPH DURING FORENOON.

THE MOST UNSTABLE AIR ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SECOND BITTER COLD OUTBREAK
OF THE WEEK...IS EXPECTED BETWEEN 4 PM AND 9 PM. IT IS THEN...THAT THERE
IS AN 80 PERCENT CHANCE OF SCATTERED WIND GUSTS BETWEEN 50 AND 60 MPH...
ROUGHLY FROM THE MASS TURNPIKE NORTHWARD INTO SOUTH CENTRAL NEW HAMPSHIRE.

ISOLATED POWER OUTAGES ARE ANTICIPATED DURING MIDDAY...THEN BECOME MORE
WIDESPREAD BETWEEN 4 PM AND 9 PM AS A FEW POCKETS OF WIND DAMAGE
DEVELOP.

THE PRIMARY TARGET REGION FOR DAMAGING WIND GUSTS IS FROM THE VICINITY
OF WESTFIELD AND THE EAST SLOPES OF THE BERKSHIRES INTO THE
MONADNOCKS... WORCESTER HILLS...THE MERRIMACK VALLEY THROUGH ESSEX
COUNTY AND SOME OF THE BOSTON METRO AREA...AND SOUTHEASTWARD TO THE
OUTER CAPE.

ADDITIONALLY...ANY TREE LIMBS STILL ICED FROM LAST MONDAYS STORM IN
SOUTH CENTRAL NEW HAMPSHIRE WILL BE VULNERABLE TO BREAKAGE AT LOWER
WIND SPEEDS.

TRAVEL WILL BE DIFFICULT FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES...ESPECIALLY ON
BRIDGES AND EXPOSED HIGH TERRAIN ROUTES THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING.

WINDS WILL BE DECREASING LATE THIS EVENING...BUT WIND CHILL VALUES
ARE EXPECTED TO DROP INTO THE MINUS 5 TO MINUS 15 RANGE. BE PREPARED
TO PROTECT YOUR HANDS AND FACE FROM FROST BITE.

A HIGH WIND WARNING IS ISSUED WHEN SUSTAINED WINDS OF 40 MPH ARE
EXPECTED FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR...WITH GUSTS OF 58 MPH OR GREATER AT
ANY TIME. DAMAGE TO TREES...POWER LINES...AND PROPERTY ARE POSSIBLE
WITH WIND OF THIS MAGNITUDE. POWER OUTAGES ARE LIKELY. TAKE ACTION
NOW TO SECURE ANY LOOSE OUTDOOR OBJECTS.
Last week it was 70F; I got chills when I read this (no pun intended).

I might actually get a Temperature day (if the temp is below a certain point school's have to close ).

It's been weird here in California. Way colder than usually, and half as much rain.

I blame El Nina.
