Bungie really only hates people who mod to cheat. (Hence, the Banhammer, anyone remmber that?)
People are going to cheat, and mod, and do asset extraction. Bungie can only hope that you're are stupid enough to go online with the mods.
In fact, the Xbox 360 got some update (might be a rumor) that if you log on with a modded console, you won't ever be able to log on again.
Of course, I just found out a way to re-skin stuff in H2v. Bungie can't do anything about that. But, if I go online with a dev mode and cheat to kill people, I could get a compliant filed against me, and ultimatly, be banned. Its all about how much common sense you have.

well its a weird discussion i say no were not doing any thing wrong we are not 1 cheating on live 2 selling our mods to make profit those are there main concerns we only make stuff that people can use for personal enjoyment. besides halo 2 was set up to be modded bungie just didn't admit it

i heard this also it seems like it might actually be if Microsoft did this than it would help the cheating but it could be like it did for xbox my friend added a bigger hard drive and got banned because his hard drive made it look like he probably had mods when all he had was extra space so if this can be done with a 360 which idk why you would do that then people would get banned for doing nothingMcJix wrote: In fact, the Xbox 360 got some update (might be a rumor) that if you log on with a modded console, you won't ever be able to log on again.

lemme tell you guys this...there have been bigger problems, that have also existed for much longer, then modding an xbox game. one example is movie piracy. Has that been stopped? NO. Will halo 2 modding ever be stopped? NO. They are powerless to stop anything.
If you have the combined resources of every production studio trying to stop movie piracy, and it has yet to even slow down, then bungie can do nothing but sit there and understand the fact we can do what we want with their games. Microsoft and bungie can burn in the DEEPEST parts of H * * L.
ANd if all else fails, move to Canada, there is no such thing as anti-piracy law that are actually enforced. thats why this country is better then the USA, UK and any other country in the world.

you forgot about it being legal to have an oz haha any who yes bungie really can't do anything if they were to " punish everyone who ever modded that would be a long long long time of people going to court haha. but seriously bungie doesn't have a real problem with " us " who don't sell or cheat so really thats all that matters right?

If they wanted to they could of stopped Halo 2 modding dead in it's tracks by destroying the filetable in the release versions of map builds. Obviously they chose not to for whatever reasons...but if we didn't have the filetable we would be back to silly offset lists and such, manually poking around in the map searching for tags...Scoliosis wrote:Will halo 2 modding ever be stopped? That's where the real fun starts! Mb h3 will do so, but I doubt it.xbox7887 wrote:If they wanted to they could of stopped Halo 2 modding dead in it's tracks by destroying the filetable in the release versions of map builds. But yeah what does it essentially say we CAN do to create these "items"? I really can't figure it out.

I think bungie is trying to stop all types of moders with there in-game map builder tool from what I've heard its like Garrys mod and that would be very nice on a concole.

Well the beta didn't, and if they did do that in the final build, at least we would be able to map a lot out from the beta's filetable.ScottyGEE wrote:That's where the real fun starts! quite frankly, we may see the difference between cheating and creativity but Microsoft and bungie doesnt. The only thing they see is modding. If they even tolerated us we would be allowed to play on live, hell we would even have our own section on XBL (matchmaking, custom games and modded content). but see thats the problem...Modded content includes cheating and creativity. They cannot distunguish between cheating and moddec content, they only see unsigned code running on their servers.
Every time I hear "we are not cheaters, we are good modders" it makes me sick. There is no such thing as a good modder. like it or not, cheaters have more in common with us then Microsoft and bungie. we are all branded in one catagory; modders.
we will never have the right to mod. It hasnt stopped us yet and we wont let it

I will say this for that quote. Halo 2 modding will never be stopped because it would be redundant and a waste of time to stop halo 2 modding when we are on the threshold of halo 3. However, being on the threshhold of halo 3, your idea to destroy the filetable would not be to bad of an idea to stop halo 3 modding. If they wanted to they could of stopped Halo 2 modding dead in it's tracks by destroying the filetable in the release versions of map builds. 1. called canada better than the U.S.
2. associated us with cheaters.
3. disagreed with xbox7887 who knows a hell of a lot about the xbox.
i don't think you'll be making many friends.

Scoliosis when xbox7887 posted about deleting the filetable he was saying they could have done it when the first dlc maps were released and modding became basically a part of every game you went into. If bungie truly and honestly wanted to stop it they would have done it then and there and we would be reduced to doing things the old fashioned pain staking way.
