How do bungie ban?

Does they ban the account?

Or do they ban the ip? both?

What do they do?

Why does it matter?
The only reason I could imagine you needing to know is if you're planning to mod on Live, or you're trying to dodge the ban because you already have.

You never know it could just be an uber noob tryin to ask somthin simulair, If you are wondering about havin a modded xbox and still having Live, u have 2 options, 1 A Hard modded xbox with a switch for the chip, or 2 Get a second xbox. If you go on xbox live with a softmodded xbox, or hardmodded while its on, they will ban your xbox's id and id assume your gamertag. I do not believe they ban IPs.

If your Xbox is banned, Microsoft did it. Bungie can only ban you from Halo 2 matchmaking.

Bungie
Will ban your account permanently for using modified DLC files within an hour of logging on to Halo 2 with the modified files. (If you go onto a different game that is not Halo 2 with modified Halo 2 DLC, it won't detect it obviously.)

Microsoft
  • Will suspend your account for a limited time if you get too many complaints filed against you.
  • Will ban your xbox if you log onto Live with a non certified BIOS. Most BIOSs today will stop you if you try to log onto Live before you can get banned, but if you're using an old BIOS, be careful and make sure auto-sign-in isn't on.
  • Microsoft will ban your xbox if the hard drive is not the same one registered to your EEPROM. See [Hard Drive] Marriage Theory 101.
All xbox bans done by EEPROM - if you replace the EEPROM in compliance with the Marriage Theory it will effectively unban your xbox.

Post deleting was removed after the merge.
Only people with "powers" can delete posts now.

powers haha ya um it bans your xbox's id one of my friends just had a harddrive upgrade but since it was different from the one he registered on xbl with it banned him he had no mods what so ever on it he just wanted more space and yes they ban your account live modding is now not tolerated at all u can't even play a custome if u mod and u get no warning just a big fat ban

No, Bungie can not ban your xbox. If you play online with H2 DLC mods, it only bans you from MM, nothing else.

About your friend and his hard drive, look at the hard drive marriage theory topic. He wouldn't have been banned if he got an unused EEPROM before he signed on.

I don't think you should be telling people how to unban their Xbox. :?

It doesn't unban the xbox from Halo2 for cheating, it unbans you after you slip up for not disabling your modchip or you put in a new hard drive.

If it could directly help cheat, I wouldn't post it.

if you get caught on matchmaking, or modding on Live in general, they ban you from matchmaking. If you keep it up, Micro$oft ban's ur eprom.

I got caught, so my modded xbox isn't alowed on Live.

Microsoft doesn't know if you mod on Halo2 - Bungie does. Microsoft never gets into that. The cheater-modders that have cycled through accounts and modded in matchmaking for months never get EEPROM-banned for that.
(But if they happen to sign in while the softmod/modchip is still on, then they do)
