Honestly, wtf..

Post by tucker933 »

I've just spent the last 4 days working my ass off on a current redo of the mod I released called Bomb Run, I'm modding off of the original release build.

Well, today I attempted to do a play test, everything goes fine, I update my dedicated server, I give all my friends the same build copy I'm running, I join the server, everything is cool, but they all will freeze during load if they try to join, it will either be at the loading screen or 3 seconds into spawning, they just freeze, no exception errors, just a game freeze.

When they try running it on their local network and play the mod, it works fine most of the time except some instances, the freeze occurs again, when their the ones hosting the game....
It doesn't matter where they spawn or what team they spawn at what so ever.

It works absolutely flawlessly for me, both when I join a server hosting it or when I host it myself, I've run this build hundreds of times and it works perfectly, yet not for other people running the same exact variant.

I've tried re-sending the mod to them, I've tried re=updating the server, nothing changes.

I honestly do not understand how or why this is happening.

Anyone who can help me fix this gets a life time supply of virtual cookies, but seriously, I would be forever in your debt.

If you can post the mod here or send it to [email protected] if it's under 20 megs. I could check it by the end of Saturday on my über awsome gaming comp.

With 9.2 GHz quad proscesser(total not each)

6 gigabytes of ram.

Or you could give me the deicated server ip

What does it matter what computer specs you have. (mine are better btw)

This doesn't fix the problem.

Wait, if one has a 2.3 Ghz quad core processor, doesn't that mean 2.3 total and not 2.3 apiece?

Are your friends applying the mod as a PPF, or are they receiving the entire .map file?

It doesn't have anything to do with connection, and the entire point is to NOT go back to the older build, I'll be loosing a weeks worth of work, I didn't have any other backups because the mod was working perfectly... on my computer only it now appears...

I do, I'll probably be getting 8GB shortly. If you use it all, you would want it.

Could your dedicated server have some sort of problem? I'm not sure, try re-sending your map to your friends?

It crashes even if you host it on a lan without a dedicated server, also I tried resending the file 5 separate times to make sure it was the right build, and it didn't change anything...
I even tried it on my laptop just to make sure they weren't just installing it wrong, and it crashes there too even when I host it on a lan.

For some reason the only computer this works on is mine.

Check your spawnpoints, make sure they're all above the bsp.

Checked that, and even if they weren't, that doesn't explain take 3 steps you die...

Lol, just an idea... you never know. If you had something crazy randomly popping up that caused it to crash that may have explained it...
I think I'm just throwing random shit out there right now lol.

Try sending the entire map folder.

Also, for some bizarre reason my Halo crashes in AotCR when I look at the glass lining parts of the tunnels. I had to edit out the tag in order to play the game. Maybe it's something like that for their computers? probably not. Try the map folder thing.
