John-117 thew the Spec. Opts. into a Escape pod if I remember correctly.

A lightsaber is basically energy focused though crystals that cancel out each other at the point. It can stop energy projectiles and other lightsabers.

A Plasma Sword on is just that... Super Hot ( In Degrees Kelvin ) Plasma that has been focused in with ( I presume since its not official) a Magnetic Field. It in its Halo 3 Form can Block other swords but not Plasma Projectiles (Splash effect?)

I say Lightsaber.

Regardless of situation or circumstance, they win.
I agree.
Tural wrote:It would be a toss up. Read the books, the Spartan barely beat an Elite in unarmed combat. Arbiter is arguably more skilled than a normal Elite, it could go either way, and there is no basis for discussing it because there is no definitive answer.
See Quote above.

Elites are the physical equals of SPARTANS.

SPARTANS have reaction times of under a millisecond; the reason they didn't put this in the game is that it would be grotesquely unbalanced for the player, even on Legendary.

But even if a SPARTAN was unarmed, in close quarters, with an elite with a sword, it would go either way.

In a simple, hand-to-hand battle between a normal elite and the chief, I would say chief would win because he's just as strong, and faster.

But against the Arbiter . . . that would be balanced.

You're going largely on speculation, when there is direct evidence in front of you. No reason to point out the physical equivalent and whatnot. There is a whole, detailed description of an unarmed fight between a Spartan and and Elite in one of the novels, as we stated. You're just reiterating what was already said, except it was previously said with evidence. I'm not sure I see the point.

It's rather well known that they are largely similar.

Doesn't have much to do with this discussion at all. This thread is about story, not gameplay.

The Elite would wipe the floor with him, barring obscure circumstances (omg spartan knocks sword out of his hand). It would not go either way. A Spartan and Elite fought in unarmed combat and the Spartan barely won. What makes you think that if the Elite had a sword he's going to be in the exact same position as if he didn't? He would have a massive advantage...

Already documented, and it's not as if it's an easy fight because they're 'just as strong and faster.' It's very close, it is a very difficult fight, and it will always be a toss-up in fair, unarmed combat.
[IA]Paul wrote:But against the Arbiter . . . that would be balanced.
Not much of a difference, really. Master Chief may be above other Spartans by a bit, but he is by no means a superhero among them. Same with Arbiter. It's a negligible difference in any standard situation.

D'oh. You're right. I just always imagined Energy Swords as being electrified pointy things more than concentrated plasma, or something of that sort.

They'd be a lot easier to block.
