The Ark

Post by M9 HE-DP Grenade »

The Ark is the largest, most complex, and most powerful forerunner structure ever built (at least to our knowledge). But when you think about it, when we build large boats, trucks, excavators, ect... were do we get all that material from? Well the planet earth of course. But if the ark has a 100,000 km diameter, that would make it much bigger than any planet made of rock or metal that we know of. I'd be curious to know... where on earth did they get material for it? In the first halo I never questioned this because the ring itself contains much less matter than a planet because it is holo and also the diameter is only about 10,000km. The ark... is simply massive. Has this ever crossed anyone's mind before?

Is "where on earth" just being used as a figure of speech? There's no reason to believe all of their materials would have to come from Earth. There's a lot of stuff in the universe. A being capable of building such a structure is capable of locating more resources than those directly in front of them.

Actually I didn't mean "where on earth" in a literal sense lol, but what I mean is that I think it would be pretty hard to find enough material to build something bigger than a planet. I guess you could use asteriods and parts of moons to build it but when you think about it they'd be consuming almost an entire solar system worth of material to build it.

The Forerunners are highly advanced; I don't find it hard to believe that they could find and use large amounts of resources without as much as a bat of an eye.

I don't think it was out of our universe.

It's actually outside of the Milky Way. Big difference, but anyways at that point in time the Flood were contained to that part of the universe only I believe. Or else they would have placed halo installations in other galaxies as well.

On the level 'The Covenant', the planet from where the forerunners extracted their materials is clearly viewable. There's great big swathes of material cut from it. That's the best I can come up with.

Oh really?^ It must be a pretty huge planet, but then that would fully explain it. Just the shear size of it had me thinking about where the resources would come from, but hell that's the answer right there. I'm surprised I never noticed that.

There are a lot of planets and stuff in our galaxy. Well more than enough to build the Halo constructs, the Ark, and all of the other constructs the Forerunners built.

As for getting the Ark out of our Galaxy, the Forerunners used their advanced slipspace technology to get out.

Simple as that.

Of course, slipspace.

That reminds me of the novels. Did the reder ever figure out what that crystal thing did?

Perhaps because 343GS blatantly states it and there's tons of other evidence to support it?

They where humans. Everything in the games, especially what the monitor says, leads you to believe the forerunners where indeed humans, and when the activated all the rings the should have died but didn't

SPOILER:

In the Ghost of Onyx book it describes the planet as being made of Sentinels and they where all linked together to shield everyone within the planet from the halo's correct e if im wrong of course

But more one topic i thought the planet in the center was the plant being used to create the new halo after installation 4 was destroyed?

well the ark builds halo's when there destroyed, for the forerunner it would be hard to build it, they could have just completely destroyed uninhabitable planets and used there material to build the ark. and in "Contact Harvest" the monitor that is activated on high charity says that the humans are artifacts that they are reclaimers that's why the brute ship went to find these artifacts there sensors picked up, the prophet of truth realized this but never told any one. And according to the books that's why they started killing us "metaphorically speaking since they don't exist...... or do they????"

yea except only like 4 of them are actually made of some sort of soil, the others are either made of Gas or some form of Ice

That's debatable.
If you're thinking about our solar system.. that's a different story.

I remember somewhere someone said (in-game dialogue or a website, I can't remember) that the planet in the center of the ark is where they got their resources from.

It was in the Halo 3 Screenshots section, I think.
