which controller?

Post by redfiat »

Hi
Been playing Halo for a month or 2 now - completed the game and now into
online playing.
Noticed alot of players must be using much better controllers than I do.
i use a trackball.
Have tried mouse. Have tried sidewinder joystick.
My big problem is I cant seem easily conrol left/right movement as well
as looking left/right. :cry:

Trying to use the movement controls and the look controls togther just confuses me,
and I end up walking sideways looking down or something dumb ass like that. :oops:

So, Im after suggestions on the best controllers to use, and how they are used?
:idea:

You could also try disabling mouse acceleration in Windows' control panel. Its called "Enhance pointer precision" in Windows XP. This will remove some of the _seemingly_ random speed of pointer move.

i have the nyko airflo mouse AND controller

but i cant find a use for the controller because my LAZER airflo mouse is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
awesome that i get headshots all the time

and he is refering to PC.

so basically use the mouse

and tweak the controls on your keyboard to the number pad

like for me :

8 = forward
5 = bakwards
4 = strafe left
6 = strafe right
3 = act short (duck)
del (.) = melee
0(insert) = jump
pgdown = action (aka get in worthog, pick up gun, reload)
and...
end = change 'nade

... works fine for me

I use mouse and keyboard (default configuration) and im fine using that. I must admit tho that i play a lot of games that use the same controls (Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield, Aquanox) so over time I've developed a quick hand and I do it automatically (when i get on the computer i do my hand setup for Halo already!!).

Use this setup (thats what I use) Left Hand: Middle finger on "W", Thumb on space bar, index on "D", pinky on left shift, and the finger between middle and pinky on "A". And then the right hand on the mouse of course. Use index for the trigger (left mouse button) and middle finger on the mouse wheel (if you have one, otherwise on the grenade trigger) Another tip is to learn typing; your fingers will then know where to go faster which is crucial in the heat of a battle (especially online).

Hope that helps! :wink:
