CD Key Question

Post by Keiser »

Would it be possible to steal someones cd-key by banning them and then going into the ban directory on your computer and decoding the cd key hash? This kind of makes me worry that anyone can get your cd key from banning even though its heavily encrypted.

It's more than likely a one-way encryption/hash method such as md5. Of course anything that's encrypted can be decrypted provided you have to resources, knowledge, time and computing power to do so.

Halo appears to connect to a Gamespy master server to check your cdkey for validity, Gamespy could either then return a simple yes or no answer OR it could return another sort of hash, and perhaps that hash (possibly your digital product id?) is used for banning instead of the cdkey.
