Or what about this:

You're an elite. All the humans are either elites or grunts, depending on what they do. (crewman are grunts, marines are elites/jackals/whatever). Meanwhile, all the convenant are humans.

It would be an interesting twist. Probably difficult, and wouldn't make much sense without a change to the storyline. But it would be cool .
