Possibility of making Halo widescreen compaitible?

Post by cyrix »

Is it possible to modify any of the coding to make Halo widescreen, or even use the splitscreen mode for 2 players with just one player playing?

The game does not render above (420p?), so no.

Can you make it splitscreen for one player?

What?
The reason that it renders to your whole screen in splitscreen is to compensate for less vertical viewing area for each player.
If you were to have it stretch over you whole screen on single player, that would be all you were doing, stretching it.

You know how when you play splitscreen with 2 people, the screen is cut in half so each player has a view. Well that view is actually reveals more than if there is just one person playing on the xbox either through campaign or system link. In other words, the POV is greater. I was wandering if there was any way to unlock this wider POV with just one person playing on the xbox.

Yes, I believe this is possible to do... no I can't remember how. :P

But I do know the Yelo trainer has options for adjusting the FOV (Field Of View)...
IGK_IncreaseFOV dw GAMEPAD_RIGHT_THUMB + GAMEPAD_DPAD_LEFT
IGK_DecreaseFOV dw GAMEPAD_RIGHT_THUMB + GAMEPAD_DPAD_RIGHT

There's always a way. Just not known...or atleast to the general public. I know somebody that was working on making it so you can play one person in single player but I don't think they succeeded in finding what needed to be done.

I think he's referring to http://forums.halomods.com/viewtopic.php?t=80109

But :?

My understanding of the question is that the OP wants to increase his FOV, hence the link to Yelo, as if I recall correctly when playing splitscreen halo actually gives you a wider FOV than when you have the whole screen to yourself.

But please correct me if I'm mistaken.

No, I think you got it. :p It should be fairly simple to change if I recall.. I haven't looked at these tags since like 2004 though. :|

he wants a halfscreen, exactly as it appears when you have two people playing on one xbox, but he wants it when there's only one player, and he wants it all the time, because he wants to play on xbc that way. he wants a lot, i know. but i don't think the yelo trainer is going to create that same appearance. i'll confess, i haven't tried it yet. i know the code is in the default.xbe, so it's not a .map mod. but i was always wondering if this was possible myself, so i'll check out the yelo trainer and report back, unless you already have cyrix, in which case, let me know :)

p.s. the reason he (and I) would like the halfscreen is because you do actually get FAR more field of view. i think it's the same vertical FOV, and something like 75% wider. but most importantly, the pistol reticle is smaller, and thus easier to shoot with. half screen is just better for competitive play, thats all.

Insid knows exactly what I mean. I haven't looked into trying to do this myself because I don't have the time to look into it recently. And it isn't cheating, but if anyone ever asked me to not use it I would revert back to fullscreen.

cheating? lol
it's a preference... a preference based on look and feel. i personally dont care enough anymore cuz i only ever lan these days and its almost always 2v2. but cyrix, i downloaded the yelo trainer and (nothing against the programmer, but as expected) it doesn't do what you want. it's an incredibly awesome trainer though for everything else it does. i just spent about an hour messing with it, hah.

oh and it only works for campaign, so it's a moot point.

but, more on this topic:
im not a skilled modder by any means, but i've looked around in the tags and i don't see anything in the map files that designates what the hud will look like for half and quarter screens. this leads me to believe that the default.xbe is doing all of it, but i have no idea how it handles hud anchors, text size, reticle size and everything else. there's a reason i gave up when i last looked into it :(

I don't know if it's cheating of not, but I know you can change the fov in a tf2 and it's not cheating. Well not cheating enough for the developers to put it in the options.

For Halo PC I have an HHT plugin that has a camera FOV option in the biped tags, if you go back to math class when they taught you proportions, you can change your FOV to 90 instead of 70 degrees, but I think it works in a circle around the camera center (both horizontal and vertical.)

1.22173 is the default value. (90 * 1.22173 ) / 70 = about 1.5707, and that makes the FOV 90 degrees when you change it to that value. But this dosn't work when you are in a vehicle. Also, I have done this for Halo PC, but never for Xbox, but I'll try it now to see if it works.

I would recommend you use the newer better entity style plugins in Eschaton instead. You should not have to all that extra math with them.
