How do I un/compress .map files to allow .ppf application?

I have all Halo-Xbox compressed maps on my PC. Do I HAVE to obtain all levels by grabbing each of them when cached (uncompressed) or can I somehow uncompress these on my PC?
My goal is to create CD-RWs containing mod'ed levels. (A CD-RW would contain all multiplayer levels with similair mods (for LAN party)). I've created a working CD-RW containing a few unmod-ed levels, but when I try to use PPF-O-MATIC (v3) I get "can't open specified image file..." I assume this is because I'm using compressed .maps.
Thanks in advance!

This sure beats doing my taxes.

yes, it's because you are using compressed .map files. Of course you can get them from grabbing cache files, or you can uncompress them with spark edit I think, although the aren't the right size then for halo to run.

I think it will be, anyway, if you want a LAN party don't you just recopy the Halo CD but will all the mods as compressed maps, then replace the maps in the "Maps" directory.

Sounds confusing i know, there is a tutorial somewhere. Unless that isn't what you are on about.
