Well, nothing more on the map until tomorrow, but I did want to share some data I collected from the first internet played session with Observatory.

My friend and I played it, DonHH2K is his name. He goes with me to school and he is also a member of these forums and mine, but anyway.

I ran two games with him. Both slayer.

I could only get two pictures that showed two important aspects of the map:

a) Stealth is a big part; lots of cover; and even with vehicles you can hide pretty good.
b)Close courters battles: intense.

I don't know if you're already aware, but I just found out you can jump the map here and here, in case you want to make those edges steeper to fix it or anything.

When I release the final of the map, it will have player clippings.

At the very beginning of making this map I was very lazy. I did not plan ahead and now I have the cliffs as a separate object just to have them UVed the right way (which I should have waited for).

Anyway, thanks for mentioning that.

Sorry for the double post, but another big update. I like playable updates rather than the standard pictures so I made another public Beta.

Acute criticism welcome.

I think it is corrupt...when I put it in the maps folder, Halo said that it a fatal error due to the map. =/

I just made this for a tunnel:

I wanted to know whether I should scrap the design or keep it. I'm not too particular about, though.

Criticism also welcome.

I think you should make the hills shorter. They seem very unnatural.

Hills? I didn't post hills. If you're referring to the past pictures I have updated Observatory, but I haven't gotten it in game (errors).

After 3 months of revising and correcting, I'm ready to announce Observatory V2, which has a planned release of Summer 08 [this is not a definite release date]:

Where does the path lead? To Be Continued...
Image

This is a work in progress. There are no bases because I haven't yet decided on their form/architecture. Please give crit because I KNOW I'm not perfect (even given the fact that this is a WIP).

This project was revived by my friend who really enjoyed the first incarnation, so I added to the original design and made it subtly more complex (the foundations are there already; they are subtle/extremely obvious).

List of stuff still to do:

-Textures
-UVing
-Bases
-Bump mapping/Cube mapping
-Some other misc. structures
-Fleshing out the giant hydro-electric looking thing
-give the crater where the bridge is some water and a waterfall (that's what the slot is for)
-ask friend of mine to make me some nice oregonian-style rock textures (yellowish/brownish)

Any suggestions are welcomed.
