In like Paint Shop Pro 8 or PhotoShop whatever kind of program you use do you always have to use a 512X512 image or can you use a different size image, because i tryed and when i went into 3ds max i made the lvl bigger sense i made the ground bigger in paint shop pro 8 but when i added the material to the box it didnt align right. So if you make the ground image bigger how much bigger do you have to make the box in 3ds max to match it so it aligns right?
I hope someone understands that all. :)

well...the reason you use 512X512 is because the bitmaps image must be a power of four so 512X512 is the easiest. & to align it right, all you should have to do it click bit or something(that is, if you are using a uvw map). that's pretty much all i can say about that...

Ok i get what your saying. But if i make the map at 512X512, when i go to place it in the box that will be that map, can i just make the box bigger to make the map bigger? would that work?

you can use these dimensions for making a map image

2
4
8
16
32
64
128
256
512
1024
2048

any higher and your map has to be very detailed, i recommend using 256(very small map)-1024(ok size, new mombasa size) any higher and you pictures becomes a very big file and any smaller and your map becomes very blurry.

the picture of your map will automatically be resized in order to fit onto the bottom 2 faces, but if you have a very big map and hav a very small dimension image it will be very blurry, and visa versa(if you map is to small and your pic is big, it will seem sort of pixely)

it doesnt matter how big the picture is, dimension or kb wise, it will automatically fit itself onto the bottom 2 faces of your map

He wants to know what the dimensions of the box in 3DS Max should be, not the texture.
