Changing of the Guard

Post by Iron_Forge »

Well, it sure has been a wild ride…Over half a decade in the making, the halo modding community has seen it’s ups and downs, and I’ve been there though it all…A lot of amazing things have been accomplished over the years, many feats that should have been impossible have come through and seen the light of day…You should all be very proud of what we as a community, and you yourself personally, have managed to do, and grow into over this time…

For me, I always believed modding was never about the modding, it was about the research…The fantastic finds and amazing things that could be discovered…In retrospect, it was never about any of that…It was about colleges, working with those who shared a passion with you, bonding, and being that community…Nothing in life can compare to the experiences of friendship…Many of you have grown to become so much more to me than just strangers passing along in the vast void that the internet provides…You were, and remain, my colleges, my friends, and even my enemies, as a community, and I will always cherish the memories we’ve shared…Always challenging what I could do, what could be accomplished, and who I am as a person…

A lot has changed over the years here…A lot of that change was pushed through with resistance, but in the end, change is always for the better…It is on that note that I’m stepping down as an administrator of the site…It is time for the old blood to step aside and make way for new, to allow new ideas to be pushed through, and let change happen, the way it must for life to prevail, and the community to continue to flourish…I ask you not to mourn the changing of the guard, to miss the old and fear the new…But to take a moment, an private moment of retrospect, and reflect upon all that has been accomplished over the years…Remember the friends lost, those who have moved on, and the friendships that have endured the test of time…I raise my glass to you all, this magnificent community, and say, well done…

Though I completely agree with what you say in the Change of Guard, to pass onto the new to flourish new ideas, Though you might not know, I must say you've been one of the most influential people to me Iron_Forge and for that I thank you.

Thank you for all you made HaloMods, all the work you put into it. And even the 'no-release policy' you guys put up a while back that only teased me to keep going. Some would love to steal but I learned that the only way to truly learn is not to be given the answers all the time and learn from that, but to figure out the answers on your own.

Once again thanks for being one of those influences on my answers.

What has come from what Grenadiac stated a page to show little mods to a community that worked together for years to help better modifications and make one of the most damn addictive experiences I've known surely blows my mind. We were given the raw materials and made homes to nest the modders in. Though it couldn't have been done without this site, without you, and without the main other researchers.

Long Live HaloMods!

It certainly has been a long time, but this site is no longer what it used to be.

Then let us hope the change will bring with it new life into what is now a dead/dying modding scene.

You leaving is a big problem for me. You practically invented modding. My life would be so different if I hadn't found this site. I was in huge trouble with the law when I started modding, and I had friends that always got me into trouble, I was never home because there wasn't anything to do, until I found modding and it took up a good portion of life.

No matter if your here or not this site is an amazing place. I completely hope that it doesn't fall apart. I don't know Source Guy but I'm sure you and Grenadiac wouldn't leave the site in the hands of someone that would smash it.

I hope you come back and visit to see our progress in all of the sections. If we don't hear from you after this, I hope you have a wonderful life and feel free to bug me on aim for all the random stuff you ask for :p. You are the father of modding and its sad to see you leave.

Thank you for all of your contributions to Halomods, Iron_Forge. You truly have made some incredible tools and have done incredible research. You've also released a few great mods that were impossible for the mere public to accomplish at the time. Without you, Halo modding would not be where it is today. Modding would never have flourished as much as it has if it wasn't for you. Thanks again and I wish you luck in your life! :D

Forge, I don't know if you remember but back when I was a snot nosed kid who thought he knew everything you were the one person who put me in my place. I started a thread asking "What makes a outstanding mod?". In that thread alone I took everything you said to me to a tee and tried my best to turn myself into a better modder. Because of your stern words and realistic comments only taught me that everything I thought at that time was wrong.

I took the mod mentioned in that thread and tried to make it better which became the Halo: Redux mod. After the praise I got from the community and it going to outstanding I still sat there waiting for a reply from you so you knew I just didn't take your comments with a grain of salt. After that I figured that maybe I need to better myself more and tried even harder eventually coming out with Halo: FTW. It to got a outstanding nod but in the end all I wanted from that mod is you knowing that you inspired me that day in the outstanding thread. You made me realize alot about myself as a person and as a member of this community. For making me a better person I say "Thank You".

I'd like to think i've grown up alot since that chat we had on AIM concerning the HaloPC section. I've made alot of bonds with my fellow PC modders and cherish those friendships dearly. You sir taught me exactly what you mentioned in your post. Friendships and good times basically. Even thoe we have never spoke since thoe AIM convo's I still hold all your advice in high reguard and when I do think im getting a ego I go back and read those comments you mentioned to me as a reflection of what I have came from.

I can't say you would be missed cause legends never die. And you sir have impacted this game like no other especially for me. It feel good to finally type all this out considering I have had it tied up inside me now for over a year but I just want you to know I didn't just read you comments. I truly listened to them.

Like I tell people who give me the "OMG FTW IS AMAZING" routine...

"If it wasn't for a man named Iron_Forge this mod wouldn't even be in existence."

God speed Forge in whatever you do.

Oh, come on Forge, it's not like you don't have enough respect to help guide the community anyway. You may be stepping down as administrator, but the influence and respect you've commanded over these many years I've known you won't be going anywhere. In other words, you're that cranky old bastard who invented modding, and we all know it. ;) Stick around and keep on being the uplifting influence to the site you always have been. Administrator or no, nothing has changed in my opinion.

Forge, Not once have I spoken to you either on the forums nor outside of them so let this be the first words that come out of my mouth in respect to you.

I'm gonna miss you man, You have done so much for this site and even though we may have been resentful at first you always had what was best for the community in mind. You seriously are the reason why I got into computers at all. (I always wanted to dual wield swords [remember the pics you had on the original tf6]), You honestly have had such an immense influence on my life and I just wanted to say thank you and it really does suck to see you leave.

I hope to see some of the ashes of the phoenix be reborn once again. I suppose only through Halo 3 modifications. I will do as best I can to further that field with the resources I have and just hope that others will follow.

Once again, Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.
We will all miss you

Tru.

I've never said anything to you, I highly doubt you know who I am.

I want to take a second to thank you for all you've done for this community, and for modding in general. I've used it as a release of stress, as stupid as it sounds, it's been a huge part of my life. I really enjoy all the time I've spent modding, and am very glad for the people and tools that made it so much simpler then using a hex editor.

I really do wish I could've been here in the beginning, Even if I was unable to help with it, I would've loved to be a part of it as it was in it's prime.

Once again, I want to thank you for all that you've done. It's truly troubling to see a figure like you go. I was shook a bit to see you step down, It's been the same way since I joined the site, albeit not too long go, It's still shocking to see such large changes happen so rapidly. I'm sure that SourceGuy will do a fine job with the site, I've heard his name quite a few times, not entirely sure where.

Best of luck with whatever you do.

Too many ellipses; didn't read.

But srsly, I have seen your influence on this site, Forge. You done well. Also true is that relationships certainly can develop over the internet, and this is one of the best places to develop said relationships. Best internet community I have ever seen.

It's always sad to see people go, and that's especially the case here. Your influence here has always been omnipresent and so much of this website was shaped by your membership.

Good luck with your future endeavors. Don't forget to stop by once in a while! :)
