You never really want to post anything like that, even if you want people to do it (and you never should just go around clicking ads all day regardless). I don't know if ad companies actually do this, but if they get suspicious they very well could investigate and see that you are asking people to click it and you'll get terminated.

They do indeed do those sorts of things, Kirk...friend of mine told a bunch of people at his school to click one ad once a day and the ad program host company became suspicious that a large majority of his clicks were within such a small area, so he was banned.

wow..as little as i come to the site anymore, this actually amazes me. being the only other website besides e-mail i've come back to at least once every 3 months or so since the end of 8th grade, and now i'm in the air force. Nooooo halomods must not get shut down, simply because it's stood up this long.
Hope there's a good solution to the issue..

Look this should be easier than we think if everyone donated 1 dollar each month we could pay this off with 100 users, hell id donate $2 :)

But really its a good idea

That made me laugh...

Anyways, it may seem fairly simple to have everyone donate a dollar a month, but I have a feeling that after a few months, the crisis in everyone's heads would die down and the donating would be reduced. I can't see donations being a premanent fix unless they were mandatory, which would be a detriment to this community. ( :P )

i got a solution

get a new host :D

ok i use a free host called hostsnake.com

you get 300gb bandwith and 20gb storage space free

its a really good deal for free servers are linux and so on u can pay for a premium ahosting and prolly get a better deal but its cheaper than what you pay!

this is just an idea

offtopic:

btw gren can you release the sparkedit source code? please

First of all, free hosting is out of the question, as has been explained extensively. Second of all, don't use this thread to plug your own agenda.

It doesn't watter one bit ;p
If it came to free web hosting I doubt I'd come here anymore. I'd rather Halomods die a somewhat dignified death of Gren just not being able to afford it anymore. But you know if Halomods did get shut down, there'd be a lot of 'olol i maed hm#twoo on forumup.org join nao'.

Well, I thought of another suggestion. You could add a donate button to the bottom of the page on the forums, so it stays there.

Like this:

I just thought cause people mainly visit the forums, and hardly spend time looking around the front page.

I'd think the top would be better, as you essentially have to see the top of the page, whereas you don't necessarily view the bottom. While adding it to the header, a link to the Gamertag Database could be put up as well. ^_^

Ahh yes, the top would be better. :P Just a thought, but what about a HM toolbar? If thats possible, with a donate button on there?

That's a bit too invasive, and it would change virtually nothing, it would just add unnecessary complications.

I think you should host the site yourself. Use your home computer. Put Linux on it. Or get people to donate to you so that we can buy you a server.

It is difficult to know what to do. It has become a victim of its success. Its a shame.

Who have you got hosting with at the moment?

It's not that easy. You can't just start a home server and dump such a massive site on it. It would take a long time to figure out the necessities, restrictions, and possible problems that would arise. Everyone mentioning running the server from his home is not factoring in anything other than cost. That is not some magic solution.

No it isn't a magic solution. There probably isn't a magic solution though. There are ways you can restrict the access so that the computer doesn't crash. It is not a great solution but it is a better solution that taking the site down or selling it.
