/me mails gren a shiney new quarter :P

Honestly, those who say they can't afford to donate are lying. Sure I understand most of you don't have jobs or credit cards or even a steady flow of income for that matter...but just a few bucks (literally) over a years span would fix all of this. Save some of your lunch money, cut someone's lawn...you get the idea. It's like voting, sure one vote may not make a difference (in relative terms) but all of them combined can. ;p

Tural and Snave. I can understand your beef with handing over the site to someone else to run. Especially if they decided to change how things are run and the what not.

Since you stated your dissatisfaction with somebody else taking over I will fill you in. Hizlo was only trying to help with the money issue and keeping halomods alive. He doesn't plan on taking over and changing the way halomods works. He had no plans of coming in and completely redoing the site. This is exactly what he told me the other day. So, he'd help keep halomods afloat and only that.

I know for a fact he didn't come here to glorify himself and become "halomods' savior".

Well that's good. I've never conversed with him, so I'm not familiar with his character and whatnot. Thank you.

Hizlo HATES halomods, if anything he would come here give the space and wouldnt even be involved with the site, nothing would change Gren would still be in charge, Like I said Hizlo is doing this because he is a nice guy and im not being rude but he doesnt give 2 shits about how things work 'round here.

I'll be donating 10 dollars via paypal each week.

Uhhh Tru ...

He doesn't support some attitude here, he thinks it should be more helpful, but hes willing to pay out of his pocket to keep the community going, the last thing he wants is a dead one. He understands how much this means to us, thats why hes willing to help.

If hes doing it in that manner, I would say he supports halomods, for the cause of the users of course.

I didn't even know Halomods had ads. I just disabled my Adblock for this website because it deserves it.

Also I have some pretty good hosting(more than enough according to Tural) if you need it . I don't feel the need to take over the site so nothing would change at all. This could just be temporary till you get the problem sorted out.

Is there no way we can reduce the database size, too?

I'm sure there's a ton of unnecessary stuff in it that could be deleted to make the database size smaller. :?

I say make a donation section on the main page and see how it helps you. I would be happy to help pay for this site. Without Halomods I wouldn't be myself. Alot of people are reliant on this site. Halomods is more then a community its a big o happy family.

I knew the day where you posted something like this would come. The fact that the site is just paid for by you really sucks. I'm sure our Halomods family can help you out.

The facts are that the site shouldn't just be reliant on its owner but the people that use the site. Imagine if you died tomorrow, there wouldn't be anyone to pay the bills and the site would disappear. Halomods cant be here forever but lets try to keep it here a little longer.

Look on the right side of the main page, there is already a donate button.

Aww... this site is too kickass to close. The very idea is intolerable.
Heck, I remember the days of Halo 2 with Gren. Good times, eh?

Maybe I'll open a paypal account and donate a buck.

Why not just build your own server? Keep it in your closet and the only thing you'd have to pay for would be electricity!

The DL's would probably go slower, but you could always disable the function and let people upload to other various sites!

Don't close it down. I love HaloMods. All the modding scene began here and will ever be here.

Donations and more ads that's what we need.

Heh, someone came on earlier and posted this. Tural and I had a conversation as to why it would be more pain than it's worth.

There's a bunch of legal issues with ISPs and server hosting. Even if there wasn't, it'd slaughter his bandwidth. Also, depending on the power consumption of the machine, it could end up costing more than it does now.

Well i dont know who your using for a server but mine is 50 dollars a year and i get 1 teribyte of bandwidth a month and 1 teribyte of space to boot. Thats per year price not month btw. You might want to migrate your site to another server.

A site with big flashy prices and words like "UNLIMITED," "FREE," and "HOT" is generally going to be outside of the professional nature of this server. On top of that, they give no specs on their server machines, and, as Grenadiac said a long time ago:
Grenadiac wrote:We could get another server, but the big requirement is memory...our forum database size is about 870MB(!), so the more memory we have the better the performance. I'm not sure a virtual server would be adequate for what we need.
So really, such hosting plans are out of the question. He's looking for an actual server machine dedicated to the site.

Dedicated Server Hosting Offer

Post by JeffCSwanson »

Hello,

Tell me if this would meet the requirements for halomods. I own a dedicated server and I love this site. I would never want to see anything bad happen to it. If I was hosting it, I would literally leave everything in tact the way it is ( staff positions, admins, etc ). It's a $700/mo hosting package, mostly because of the pix, which I would host this site on for nothing. However, we'd need to talk before doing anything.

2.66 GHZ processor
100mb/s port with unlimited bandwidth
Dedicated PIX firewall for DDoS attacks
100 GB of space for halomods
DA control panel
and over a gig of ram

This is a legitimate offer, I would not waste your time. I had to register a new account today because I couldn't remember my old one. Sorry about that. Get back to me if you're interested. :) I would prefer through a PM. This way there would be no need for lame advertisements or anything else of that nature. I have already sent you a message through PM, and most of it is here. Just thought I would post it too.

PS: I am familiar with html, IPB interface, PHPBB interface and VB interface, and just familiar enough with php to install mods. I would be able to fix things when they stopped working and maintain a decent uptime.
