HALO MONTAGE MAKERS BEWARE!!!!!

Post by Bigern1990 »

It has recently come to my attetion that the RIAA is cracking down on people who use music in their videos, such as Halo montages. What Halo montage doesnt use music from popular artists? The reason that they are cracking down on these people is because they are using music they have not licensed for use in the video. I have deleted all my videos off of YouTube and Google Video. They will be back up in a year when the heat is off, i would recommend doing the same.

This is not just for montages, this is true with any music, no matter where it is or what its purpose. And this is known. I don't see a point in this warning.

I'd assume the RIAA is going after the big guys who organize/promote these things. They've shut down websites... if anything, they'll talk to google and youtube about these things, not the people who post them. It's nothing to worry about....

Aren't you allowed to use 30 second clips? Just make a 30 second montage.

I suppose this kinda thing might go for maps too? I can think of a number of maps which have songs on em.

Nothing new, but I think the RIAA is on a fruitless crackdown, you aren't going to stop this kind of thing unless you disallow all audio in fan created videos that isn't author created, a daunting task.

This is stupid. The RIAA will not chase you down and sue you for using some artists music in a montage... that's ridiculous... its not like you're SELLING them.

Right, and especially if you don't claim the song as yours and credit the source...

I mean it's ridiculous... you can quote text in reports and such as long as you source them, but you can't do music?
