I thought that www.videotuts.net was such a great idea that I wish that it was still around. I would not mind developing it but I am 15 years old and I have no money to make it. If anyone would like to host it and/or help design it I might need both. We'd have to buy hosting and a forum like this one but I think that "Powerboard" has a deal where you can host their forum for like $10 a month and thats it or something. I think a forum would be all we need but we'd need a butt-load of space... anywho, if your interested leave a post and/or PM me.

Ok, forum up on temp. space... check out http://jrezhosting.com/hvtforum/index.php and sign up. Upload any tuts you want to www.putfile.com and link it, because currently we don't have enough space to hold videos but that will change ASAP.

I gotta check with my "source," but I think I'd be able to do the webhosting.

Currently I only run a forum on my site (jrezhosting.com/discussionboard/) and I could easily set up a forum right off the bat for it, but I just need to check my space and bandwidth settings. Plus, we'd need to buy a domain. Godaddy.com is good, jsut make sure you do a whois lookup on the domain you want and I'll take donations to buy it (it's only like 30 bucks for 4 years or something).

Do you want it to be only for halo? I'd prefer that because I don't have unlimited bandwitch and space, but if you're really interested in making it a huge site, I'll need some cash assistance (currently my paycheck goes straight into payments and living expenses) for some legitimate, bordered hosting.

Let's just keep the discussion rolling in this thread.

Hm... yes, we'd keep it only about Halo but also modeling tutorials. What i want to acomplish is pretty much a video tutorial for everything we would want plus tutorials that members submit (which would be viewed by us before submitted to being a tutorial. I could probobly fork over money in about 2 weeks because my $10 per week allowance was put on hold cause I owed my parents for an electronic hopper for a gun. But if I combine that with my easter presents I can scrape up about $50 in a matter of weeks.

Sounds good, I can get a temp domain set up at "halovideotuts.jrezhosting.com" or whatever you like with a forum, but for now I'm not gonna host video files until I know my boundaries. I can do images for now if you want, I'll probably find out in the next couple of days.

well, if you can get access to a big chunk of those 500gb, we should use yours. We won't need more than one sql database probably for the forum.

What's the monthly bandwidth limit? We'll need a LOT of bandwidth for videos and stuff.

this is where Halopc.net is hosted, so I can personally recommend the hosting provider. You will need a LOT of bandwith if you host the videos yourself, and at servage if you go over, they stop the connection, rather than charging you thousands of dollars in overages....

EDIt* if you do go there, get a referral code from me, and we both get an extra few gigabytes of storage for free.

I think that IF we HAVE to pay for this, that webhosting will probobly be the best. It looks very good (+ having a good referal is also good) but if we can get away with having free storage I think that would be ideal, but then again, what things in life are free? It would cost $90 for 1 year which isn't bad. I could make that in about 2 months (ust off my allowance) but if anyone wants to donate like $10, I should set up a paypal account for paying for the website/donations. I'll look into setting up a bank account and setting up paypal.

EDIT: Well, I found out that I CAN make a new savings account and since I am a minor, the minimum payement is only $25 which is no problem. So, once I get that set up, I'll see if we can't get some donations comming in so we can launch this site ASAP.

EDIT2: Ok, well we can do these different payment plans:

Quarterly Payments = $37.50 to start for 3 months
You only prepay 3 months in advance - Setup fee apply (USD 14.99)

Bi-Yearly Payments = $45 to start for 6 months
Prepay six months in advance and get free setup!

Yearly Payments (recommended) = $90 to start for 14 months
You pay one year in advance and we give you two additional months free of charge (14 months in total!) and free setup

I am not sure what to do, I need to know who would be willing to donate what... I'm willing to put in that $25 + whatever I can amke but I would also like to see this site up soon... I need some feedback.

well, we could always offer advertising on the page to get some revenue for server payments, but there would be a lot of ads and I'd personally feel like a sleazeball for doing it...

so donations would be very nice, imho.

Ok, if anyone wants to join up, we set up a forum on temp. space. We will be moving the forum as a whole very soon so that it can actually host videos but for right now you can upload any tutorials you want, to www.putfile.com and then we'll link it to the website untill we actually have our own space to host.
