is it supposed to be hard to get an emblem? what special purpose do they serve?

They show you've accomplished something in that particular area, they don't give you super powers or anything.

No, at first this thread was announcing what the emblems were and what they meant.

It can be hard, but you just have do be good at what the emblem's purpose is for. The emblems are just a way of showing that you are good at the specific thing.
For example this emblem

is for modding. If you are good at it you get the emblem and it shows you are good at modding or whatever the emblem is actually for. Then extra chevrons *the yellow arrows* show how much better you are at it. If a person with a 3rd chevron modding emblem,

that means they are outstanding at what they do or did.

No, if that was the case people would download their own mods to get it. It just has to be a nice skin that even the Emblem God would like.
