Some guns I be modelin'

So, recently I got bored and modeled some pistols. It's been a while since I've even touched 3dsmax, but I think they came out much better than
my last attempt (4 years ago, jesus)
Well. This is the Ruger P345, I left off the safety (at least I think that's the safety, 'fraid I don't know much about guns)

This is the SIG Sauer P229, which I haven't put the ejection port on yet:
I need to look up sights on pistols, I can't seem to get them the way I want them to look.

Pretty good so far, but there are still a series of missing details for both models. I also feel that the edges could softened a little.

Thats a great way to judge the quality of the model.
as for the model, theres quite a bit of innacuracy between the references and the models, otherwise, they really dont look half bad, definitely worth finishing.

So you'd prefer that people who don't know what they're talking about judge a model? That's a great way to judge the quality of the model.

If you read my post properly you would quickly understand that that was exactly what I was saying should not be happening.
Unless that was a pathetic attempt at a joke about my ability to judge the model, which if thats the case, you should be killing yourself right about now.

It's not like he's making these for a competition.
As for the models, they're pretty sweet IMO, but some of the corners on the Rugar are kinda blocky.

Actually, I'm making them for a HL2 source mod.
some of the corners on the Rugar are kinda blocky.
That's my biggest problem with it right now. I'm having trouble getting it the way I want it to be =/

Most of the not-so-important details I'd probably just include in the textures instead of modeling.

it'd be an honor to be shot with one of those any day.

I didn't misread, you misspoke, then misread my post. Now drop it.

They're quite inaccurate. Take a closer look at the references and start over. Main points to look at are the grooves on the slide, they indent into the slide, they don't stick out. That little cylinder you have on the grip does stick out like that. It should be something that's part of the texture. And the grip on the ruger is completely wrong. Both models are far too boxy. Try finding more references then just one. when I do it I usually have 15+ images to work with.

Oh geez, can't believe I didn't see that.
EDIT: Okay, I can't believe I didn't see that on the SIG. I must've been retarded when I made the Ruger.
start over.
lolno.

I agree that the Ruger is too boxy, but the P228 is fine to me, this is for in game and I don't particularly want it to be any higher poly than it needs to be, and that's something not very noticable in game.

I did, I just didn't post them. It's hard to find shots from certain angles (like down the sights or facing the barrel) ¯\(°_o)/¯

Are these plane modeled? or did you use spline/box. By the looks I'm going to assume spline and/or box. If that's the case I suggest you check out this tutorial
http://www.moddb.com/tutorials/23868/be ... o-tutorial
It's a little long, but it will give you a much better result. And when modding, it's always nice to have decent models. While the grip, for the most part will not be seen in game, some of it does need to have a round appearance when reload animations and such play, and even some of the rear is seen in the idle position.

I assumed the models above are the outcome of that tutorial.

I really don't have time to watch that much, especially at 100+MB each. I guess I mostly used spline+extrude for these, I don't use box at all. I'm barely familiar with 'plane modeling,' but from what I hear it's the way to go.
Regardless, I think these are decent overall and I think they're good considering they're my 3rd and 4th weapons ever, and the last one I did before these was nearly 4 years ago.

To be honest, the second one looks really nice. Not entirely accurate, but nice.

They dont look bad, but theyre not good or great either.
Theyre average.
Could be better, but its not bad, since I seem to have to stress that with a few of you, as you immediately think Im saying it sucks, whenver I post.
Just do what I said. Try following your references better, and start them over again. Improve and fix your mistakes you made this round, and youll be getting somewhere in no time.
