I know for a FACT, that I have increased in skill for space scenes.
And this had to be the most fun i've had without inspiration in a while. this image has undergone 16 different files, mainly just for the planet and trying new techniques.
Hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did making it! Stick around for the next image in the series sometime this month!

I don't really like it. It's not colorful enough for my liking, and no planet shadow is that dark. The text at the bottom left is pretty ugly.

I agree.

The stars are pretty sexy. But the clouds on the main planet seem way too sharp. Maybe you should try adding more genres to your space scenes; space ships, satellites, etc.

I am planning on collaborating with a professional 3D artist, once he accepts of course.
And Scott, it isn't meant to be colorful in any particular way, it is meant to be my attempt at realism, which in reality, space is dark and has the least bit of color.

It's art, you can make it look as un-realistic as you want. I'd rather look a and unrealistic scene that's completly spectacular (Alyn Hunter man?) then a boring realistic piece (I.E. Nasa image).
I'm not saying it's bad, I just think it could have used more flare.

Sometimes, Realism is what sets other space artists apart from the rest of the crowd. people strive to reach either perfection, or realism in space art, but what most people create is fantasy, and that is why space art is a dyeing genre.

Real isn't always interesting, and when you're creating your own piece, I don't think you should strive for how realistic it looks, but how creative you can be or how you can express feeling or portray thoughts.
The star field look amazing, and the larger planet is really nice. The text, not so nice, and I don't really see how it fits the title "Rapture"...
Space art is a dying genre because people get bored of "realism", and your new piece is a perfect example.

Well as i said on dA the planet is a major step up
as for realism and whatnots this piece goes for a more simplistic approach in my view
and thats just another style. so its a question of taste

I would have liked it more if the planet looked real. The whole piece is a little boring.

Boring.
There is nothing spectacular going on in the scene. If I wanted to see a planet in the stars, I'd look at a NASA photo. Make something happen. Make something we haven't seen before, and god forbid, at least use an original title.

So the only good comment is one that's on your side? I told you what I didn't like about it, and how I think you could improve. So did like five other people. How does this forum suck again?

it sucks because apparently noone here likes it, when I myself am trying to improve. the only critique i've received is for it to be "Fantasy."
It's a new style, it is in no way meant to be fantasy.

Well, aside from the red spots, the center of the larger planet, and maybe 2 or 3 stars I like it quite a bit. It has a pleasing look about, and would probably be a nice poster.

I like it. It's natural and convincing... Kinda like a photo from a telescope.

The lighting on the sides of the planets (I'm asuming thats what they are) looks too artificial, but other than that it looks great!

For someone to run around bragging about their skill and have avatars displaying the fact that they are a "GFX Expert", you sort of have to expect that. Going around bragging about your work and talking about how great it is only makes people want to critique your work and point out flaws. Had you taken a better attitude towards your graphic work in the beginning and had not gone off whining about how you don't have 3 chevrons, maybe we'd want to help you more.
Honestly, you've lost my respect. If you can't deal with a little bit of criticism and face the facts here, maybe you shouldn't even bother here. One of my biggest pet peeves is people that simply post things like "sweet" "just plain awesome" or "10/10". There's no such thing as 10/10. Get over it. There's
always something wrong, there's just no way to get over it. Facts of life. The comments posted
were good comments.
