Definition: One of several items laid one on top of the other; used in graphics to separate and manage multiiple parts of a graphic easily, such as background, text, etc.

I know most people know what a layer is for, but I'd never heard of it until a few months ago (paint addict lol). If you don't think this entry is necessary, then by all means exclude it.
