Hi,
I have wirless roadrunner. Which i guess that means i have a router in my house. I am on the computer that has the wireless connection. The main computer is in the office and it is connected through the cable outlet and thin into the router i guess thats a router. But i am making a server for my clan. I have all the downloads, maps, update and everything. I start my server and then go into halo to find it. Well i can find it in the halo lobby but when you click join all it does is list the ip:port and try to connect 4 times and then say could not join. And it doest this to everyone. Why? Somoene told me its b/c i have a router. Can someone help me fix this so i can use it for my clan. Thanks, by the way i do not have a firewall.

on your router, you are gonna have to do some configuring.

One thing is that u have to run your ded server on a diff port than halo... I use port 2308. To make the dedserver use 2308, add
-port 2308
to the end of you shortcut to the dedicated server.

Next, you need to configure your router.

Get your router user manual, and configure it (usally there is a ip:port you go to to config the router). You need to make it forward all trafic on port 2308 to go to your private ip (the in-network ip that your router gives you... if you make a LAN game, that is the IP it says when u hit F1).

That should make it work... with some routers theres differant stuff you have to do...

yeah

thats almost common knowledge there
think you can figure out all that SParks?

anyway while youre here i ll let you in on a little secret, you cant join your own dedicated server, you have to be on a different computer to utilize it, you may even have to be on a different network
good luck with the configuring
if you need more help be sure to specify your router name and model so we can get straight forward directions for you

also double check the the router is not just your modem, i have just a modem that uses wirless built in, no router, i guess you could say its built in

i join my own DS all the time... its on my own comp

its common knowlage but it doesnt sound like he knows he has to config his router.
if it's built in i dunno.

u can join ur own ds, ive always been told you couldnt, figured running it and running halo was too much for the processor, why not just run a server from inside halo and play on it????

now if the ds is on another computer itd be ok

but i thought the principle behind the ds is that its supposed to be faster(less laggy, lower pings ect) than the ingame halo servers???

a router is a natural firewall, what your going to have to do is log into the router and forward the ports to your ip
