New PC Troubles

Post by Explosive American »

So, I finally got around to building my PC. Most of the stuff works. It boots up, the hardware check beeps, it goes to the motherboard's setup screen, the fans spin, the power button functions, the USB ports work, all of the PCI devices work and the graphics card works, the CD drive works fine and loads my XP disk, (although it's listed as a slave), so yeah. However, it won't find my hard drive. It's PATA, and I plugged the single plug end of the IDE cable into port IDE1 on the motherboard, and plugged the HDD into the plug in the middle of the cable, and tucked the unused plug away.

EDIT: Now nothing works. I'll see you later when I get some professional tech help.

For one, I found out there was no power going to the drive X(
Secondly, it is now shutting down upon startup.

The OS is installed, but not configured for that computer, and for some reason my arrow keys refuse to work to highlight the option to fix it, but work in the motherboard setup menu, which is where I set the computer to shut down if the CPU fan wasn't working. I thought I was doing something to help the computer, but now it's just shutting down on startup, even though the fan is working perfectly fine. It just makes the hardware check failure noise and shuts down.
