DOWNLOAD: Xen HaloDed Pack

Post by Cyorxamp »

Hello,

Second post! This one doesn't have to be read with the other but you may be here after reading the one about the Linux Dedicated Server.

This is a pack I have put together of some handy Windows and Linux scripts for launcing different game types and also different versions of the games. It comes with sample game confs and also a game type. It also comes with a handy document to remind you which maps are what and a quick reference guide to rcon.

For full details I have pasted the 'howto.txt' I have made below...

p.s. If this is useful could it go in the 'Utilities' board?

For the moment the download location is...

n.b. This is a 7z compressed file, 7-zip supports this format and is free as well as the latest WinRAR.

Xen HaloDed Pack How to
-----------------------

Before you can use this pack, you must have the Halo Dedicated Server 1.02
files (or later version) and the maps already installed or copied to a location.

This pack gives you a copy of every 'haloded.exe' executable there has ever been
to date for backwards compatibility with other Halo players. Some of these
versions end with a letter 'c' indicating it has been cracked to work with users
of Halo that have an invalid CD Key perhaps because you have near by freinds on
computers and you want to all play on a public server but only have the one key.

It also gives you handy Windows and Linux scripts for selecting the type of game
you wish to launch and what version of the server. In Windows you can simply
double click on either of the batch files 'Select Game' or 'Select Version' and
in Linux when in the right directory you can execute './game' or './version'.
When using Linux I recommend using Wine version 0.9.42 as this works for me.

Please note that the server can not be run when you have no active display, so
you can not run this from DOS or on a Linux box where there are no X sessions
running on display 0. Use RDP or VNC when controlling remote servers.

You should only use this pack on Windows 2000 or above, or using Wine when
emulating Windows 2000 or above which is the default. Although a normal set
up will work on earlier versions of windows it would be stupid to.

You can have multiple game setups in the 'confs' directory, the format of these
is the same as the original 'init.txt' which is talked about at length in the
main Halo Dedicated Server 'Readme.rtf' file.

You can add options to launch any new game configuration or 'haloded.exe' by
editing the batch files. If you are unsure then read up on batch files, they
are very simple DOS based scripts, and anyone without much knowledge of scripts
can duplicate options that already exist changing the filenames and names.

'Commands and Names.txt' contains all the essential commands and names you'll
need when in game and want to remotely control it by pressing your top left
most key on your keyboard (not Esc) which varies with keyboard type. You might
want to consider printing this as it will save you constantly trying to minimize
the full screen Halo trying to get the official and lengthy 'Readme.rtf'. If
that key does not work you need to add '-console' as an argument when launching
your Halo game. You can edit the Halo shortcut to do this.

The 'data' directory contains what Halo would normally make in your 'My
Documents' directory. The 'data/savegames' directory contains a copy of all
your custom game types. I have included some I like to use, to make more then
you can create them on your Halo game and copy them to your server. These
custom game types can be referenced in the files found in 'confs'.

'Guide to Maps.html' is a web page taken from the original Microsoft/Bungie web
site modified to include the extra maps found in the dedicated server with small
thumbnails to remind you which map is which as you create your game conf files.
