How to use hex workshop.plasma _cannonthrower

Post by xserre »

this is my first tutorial I'me gonna make I'll do my best to do it in the most proper English I ever spoke.
Oh and btw i don't really know the difference between left and right (it's some sickness like dyslexion).

getting started
First you will need to get some things:
-hex workshop, you can find this http://www.bpsoft.com/downloads/ here be sure thet you download the newest version

-retail-offsets you can find the list http://files.halomods.com/viewtopic.php ... a16be2c787
here be sure to download the offsets.rar not any of the other files

your first job on hexworkshop
go to file and then press open, the maps dialog will pop on your screen if it's not automaticly in halo's maps document you must browse to it (default= C:/Program files/Microsoft games/Halo/MAPS)
from there open up the map wich you wish to change

In the toturial i will be editing the flamethrower with the fuel rod gun bullets (can you smell it , smells like a weapon of TOTALLY MASS DESTRUCTION), in Bloodgulch.
You don't need to choose bloodgulch for this but you will need a map that supports 1 of the 2 guns(except if you put 1 of the weapons allready in the map with other moddingtools).
So open up (Bloodgulch)and minimize hexworkshop.
open up the offsets.rar if you need to then you must extract them first.
A document will be exctracted called retails-offsets open it and you will see a lot of .HTML files so open the .HTML wich matches the map you opened in hexworkshop e.g. for me that is bloodgulch.retail.
At the top of the webpage you will see index go there and look for projectile.
The webpage will automaticly scroll down to the projectile section.
In the weapons section you'll need to search for the bullet/projectile you want to change , in my case it's flame from to flamethrower.
So search for flame, and next to that (right side)you'll see 4 rows, only the first 2 are important.
now go and chek the offstets row for flame, if you found it you should have this offset:"0085CA70" you will need to copy that.
Now go to hex workshop wich has remained minimized for a while.
To go to the offset you just copyed you will need to rightclick the white part of the screen wich is full of hexadecimal numbers and letters.
A dialog will open up full of options search for the goto option click it and another dialog will unfold choose offsets(another way to easely go through this process is to just press ctrl+g).
A new window has just opened called goto.
you will see several options, I've got the from where option standing on " the beginning of file" (I did this because everytime i was finished with a job on hexworkshop i needed to restart the program if i wanted to do another job)
Theres also field called offset you must paste the offset you copyed earlier into tha field.
After that press the GO button.
You will now go to your offset.
So your pointer needs to be at this value:"F4AA 8240"
Now go back to the offsets list and search for the projectile you want the flame to become, the projectile i will be used will be a fuel rod bullet in this case called plasma cannon, this time you will need to go to the second row called value the value of the plasma cannon is:"7C118440" but you can't copy&paste it into hexworkshop so you will have to remember it.
Open up hex workshop and the indicator should still be at "F4AA8240" now from there start to type the valeu you remembered (7C118440).
now all cifers should become red except the last 2(40) you don't need to worry about that all valeus end with a 40.
Now go to file and choose :"save as".
Save it and then close down hexworkshop.
Open up halo and use the flamethrower and chek it out as i said A WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION.
ENJOY!!
I hope this tut wass helpfull.
Here is a video of the effect
http://video.google.nl/videoplay?docid= ... 6260959223
the quality suck but i'll try and get a better vid with fraps.

some extra tips

Post by xserre »

i've also got some extra tips wich might be fun:
-you can almost convert all to all
-when modding infinity you could change the projectile of a weapon to
levels/test/infinity/devices/beam emitter red/effects/beam
or levels/test/infinity/devices/beam emitter red/beam hit this gives a nice
effect
-you can make a gun shoot a vehicle or even active camo or overshield
-you can change a powerup like active camo or overshield or a weapon with
a vehicle then the vehicle will be invisible but it will spawn every "x"seconds
so you'll end up having really much invisible vehicles at the end.
-you can make weapons shoot scenery like rocks & stuff

that was about it.
have fun playing your new mods
