Looking for feedback on a beggining model

Post by antszy101 »

I have had 3ds max since maybe the first week of october. I created this using one plane and then extruding and such. I know there are some inaccuracies from the actual thing, but I'm still adding to it.
The newest revision stands at 1,408 polies and around 1600 vertices.

^up to date^. Bottom two are older renders.

Constructive criticism is appreciated.

Not sure I see why there are so many pollies. It's pretty fair for a first, but attention to detail would come into play well here. It's very blocky and would be a pain to hold, so I'd add some curves and fix up a hilt.

By the hilt, do you mean the handle connected to the trigger?
Also, where do you think I should add curves? Around the back end or just around the edges in general?

Looking good so far. I suggest adding a flashlight. Wait is it on the Halo 3 model (<and that IS what you're doing right?)?

Yeah, and think of the original AR. It's kind of bulky, but it's not all that blocky. Most all of your edges are very square. Oh, and the barrel is very small. Like I said, good for a first, but needs detail.

barrel is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too small!!
unless you are making an airsoft gun model, which i find HIGHLY unlikely.

Definitely good for a beginner, but I'd definitely try to work out both your block problem and the poly problem.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I'll try to add some more detail and fix the edges/polies problem. Should the whole thing just be more rounded? Like adding a slight chamfer to the outer edges?

I will get one up in a couple of hours. I can't use my modelling computer for a bit but I'll try for tonight at the latest.

Barrel is good if you were going to poke someone with it, but too small if you shoot with it.
