New Dashboard Update

Post by bballaplaya4life »

Hey everyone.

Most of you have probably heard that there is going to be a huge dashboard update this fall. It is cool but it got me wondering: Could they change the security and possibly make modding impossible? Any answers are appreciated.
Senor_Grunt: Okay, so, I was playing CoD4 earlier, and about 30 minutes into playing, the screen went black, then flashed, then the 360 gave me red rings. Only, they weren't rings, they were half of the ring. Like, only two of the controller light thingies were light up red. WTF does this mean? Like seriously. My 360 still works, but it does that like once every week at the least, and it's getting annoying getting to round 16 in the zombie mode for CoD5 (so totally not bragging ), then suddenly blacking out. :[
tucker933: Pour some liquid nitrogen on it.

No. The container format support is built into the game. If they changed the security on the container, the game would have to publish an update too, which there is no reason to believe they would do so. Anything is possible though. Yes, it could be done. Is it likely? Not really. There's nothing to discuss after this. They can do whatever they want, they have complete control over the console. To do so they would have to support older container files still, which means modding would still be possible for existing things, or they would have to resign every single container on every hard drive, which is too impractical. There is virtually no chance they will be able to change the container format and make such modding impossible.

Short answer: Possible? Yes. Practical in any way? No.
