Posts have been deleted from the Rant thread. They aren't allowed to complain there.
JK-47 wrote:These threads are designed for people who have actual ideas, not "OOH BAAAW".
This is Complaints and Suggestions. This is where they can complain.
JK-47 wrote:If they really care enough about the ads, they'd use their minds and come up with a compromise to help get rid of them.
All proposed ideas have gotten nowhere so far. The administration gives them reason to believe that they have no say in the matter, and if they have a problem with the ads, they have to suck it up because they're not being changed. The members are constantly censored from voicing their opinion on the matters.
JK-47 wrote:All their complaining does is frustrate people, and that doesn't do anyone any good.
And you telling them to shut up is fine and dandy, doesn't frustrate anyone.
JK-47 wrote:The moment SG sees the ideas and refuses all of them is when I stop caring about whether people complain senselessly or not. Because the solution is very simple, just go to basic hosting if you can't afford all the hosting needs this website needs right now.
The lack of action is indicative of that. Amongst people complaining about ads, more keep getting added. The exact opposite of what the members have voiced desire for is happening. How is that not refusal to take another approach?

You're being ignorant and hypocritical. You're talking about people complaining and being frustrating, but that's not exactly what you're doing? The only thing that separates you from them is that you're complaining in agreement with the staff, and they're complaining with disagreement to the staff. You're just playing on the knowledge that the staff aren't going to remove your posts because you're defending them. Members are allowed to complain here, and you need to stop telling them they can't, because you're not in a position to do so, and they are in violation of no rules by doing it. Quit complaining about complaining, it's as pointless as you claim their initial complaints are. Drop it. You have no reason to keep posting like you have been.

We all know that they suck, nobody enjoys them. I'm not siding with anyone, I'm not 'abusing the fact that I know the staff won't delete my posts'. I don't care if they delete my posts, they are more than welcome to. All their crying does is provoke people. And whether it's right or wrong, it probably provokes the wrong people. What do you think is going through the staff's minds when all they see is people whining at them?
"Oh, here's another person whining about those gosh darn ads again!"

Nobody takes people who cry about things seriously. I would personally like the ads gone, and people who point out the obvious aren't helping at all. Their posts are useless, and they do more harm than they help.

To reduce costs SG could disable file hosting on this website, he could delete all the old files that are hosted here: but I swear to god I will find you and_ if you simply delete them without any prior warning, because I want a chance to backup files before they disappear for, potentially, ever. Once all the old files are gone your hosting needs are reduced since theres not so much data that needs to be kept around. People can mirror any files that the need to host. As for the server: you might as well downgrade to a slower server and disable some of the ads because right now the ads are destroying the load-time advantages of the current server.

So let the staff deal with it. You posting directing people to do something only creates more problems. Nobody's going to go "Oh, since JK-47 told me to think of a way to fix it, I will, I hadn't thought of that before!" There's nothing to be gained from you telling them what to do either, you're in the same boat.

You might as well add video ads and somehow make it a requirement to watch one a day. At least then we wouldn't have all these annoying ads everywhere and you'd actually get money.

Nah, I think we need flash ads that have a quiz question on it, and you have to register on the site to answer it, and if you fail, you have to watch five more and get at least four of those correct.

I hear pornography pays well...Perhaps the site needs pornography...It attracts nerds, nerds like pornography...There are pornography sites that give you free daily content to host your own site, take care of all the eCommerce, and you get paid for members that sign up to "your site", which then has more content, and they just take a small cut of the profits...

Seems like a reasonable compromise...

With that and adblock, my ads are gone. None. Zero. In fact, I never had ads in the first place.

Everyone knows by now. After it being posted more than a dozen times, I think people get the idea. That is not the purpose of this thread.

thinkreddie, the point is not to eliminate ads for all users by blocking them. We're trying to come up with a solution that actually generates revenue for HaloMods...

My bad. I skimmed the thread. (It's still a handy tool to use, though. :P)
There are plenty of good ideas in this thread, better than this store contest... Did SG even read them?

I'm game.

As you can see, I'm made for this business.

Oh, and that's not me at all. I just googled "Fat Ugly Kid"

On a serious note? Get rid of the inline ads, all it does it piss people off, nobody ever clicks those things.

Try getting some relative ads, all the ones I see are for things I'd never click. Get stuff that's for gaming or Halo, I've actually clicked on ads because I was curious before when gren had Google's Ads. If you would get stuff that's revelant, you'll actually get people to click them.

Go with the store idea, try selling some stuff.

Cut out downloads, but before you do let it be known. I'll personally hunt you down if everything hosted at HM is lost without a chance to save it.

More then anything get people interested in modding again. Hold monthly modding contests for Halo 1/2, Push Halo 3 Modding and Halo 2 Vista modding more. Try reaching out and getting more members interested in the site, more members=more potential clickers. And even more then greedy money needs, we need to revive the community. The game is still fun to mod, there's still stuff to do that's creative.

If the more experienced modders can start pushing out some new stuff, and some really really high-quality stuff, then it'll pull in people to the site.

Or, continue shoving ads in our faces and pray we don't leave to go somewhere else.

Relevant ads would be better, I guess. I don't know how much control we have over that though.

Monthly modding contests would be good. Emblem awards for them would be awesome.
