Recruit active members who are in good standing in this community and add them to an invisible moderator group that has access and the ability to fix specific reports. That way you have a force or users who can handle the small things like enforcing signature rules, and locking topics that are offtopic or spam. By keeping them secret, in theory, you would keep them from being influenced by other users.

Since the staff mostly stick to the cafe, would it be too much to ask to do something like xbox-scene does? They have two or three restricted moderators for each section. I think we should implement this. Give two or three people who are knowledgable, understanding, but will put there foot down when needed, restricted moderation powers for each halo section in the forum.

I'm for more Staff members. If there are qualified people that want to do it, they should go ahead.
But having an invisible group of Gestapo men is rather lame...just but them as normal Staff, or "Janitors" if they have to have some lower form of power.

You dislike the concept of it, when the practice would not be a problem. Put aside your notion that it's some sort of power-abusing group. It would be a group of people that just closes reports, but wouldn't have to represent the site as members of the staff, nothing more. You're reading too much into it.

Upside: They handle reports, they fix problems. It helps speed up the time it takes to get a problem fixed.

What is the negative impact of this? I see none. Somehow adding people to staff is okay as long as their name is green, but the same people added to a different group is not okay. They do the exact same thing, but their name isn't green. Obviously unacceptable, right? If their name is green, they are upstanding members of the staff. If their name isn't green, they're Nazis. gg.

Demoting most of them was a good step in the right direction. Honestly, I see no reason why a few of them should have power at all.

And I agree with the original aspect of the thread. Posts reported were taking way too long to become resolved.

In terms of the, "special moderators for certain sections," idea, I agree. Many members, I'm assuming staff included, focus their attention on the cafe and social aspects of the forum. If you obtained select active members, or organized existing staff members, that semi-frequently visit their designated subforums, it would decrease the time it would take to have a report noticed and resolved.

As for the 'hidden nazi janitors' idea, meh. I mean... sure, whatever. I see no real downside, but any positive effect would be minimal, I assume.

If your willing to give this group the said power, why not just make them staff? I don't see the point in designating a covert group to perform the same abilities as a staff member. If you want it to be a watered down version of what staff can do, then why not give them a different colored name? People have a right to know who's a part of this group, that way they know who to turn to if there's a problem they need resolved.

And if a staff member is nowhere to be found? My point is that sometimes things just need to be taken care of, and a staff member isn't around to help. Don't get all pissy because I suggested to color someones name, hell, you can even make a list somewhere of "helpers" that way any forum-goer can find a name on the list to pm about an issue. Sometimes posters request that their threads be cleared of any "spam" for the sake of saving their topic.

I for one am against "secret police." It lacks any sense of accountability to the community for what they do. I'd appreciate a public log of moderation, but that's not going to happen, so just tweak the report system and get new moderators and put them on a trial period or something.

Also, FUCK
