Let's be honest now, Gren gave you the site because I told him he should...I told him he should because you wanted to start a separate Halo modding site, and at least I thought you already had a server/network feed you were funding, so there wouldn't really be additional costs...Had I known you expected this site to somehow pay for itself, I would've laughed in your face...Then I would've moved the site to a server sitting in my basement, and ran it from here, disabling all downloads...Afterall, if it paid for itself I would've taken it from Gren, in all likelihood he wouldn't have given it away...

You see, the site doesn't need all the "fixing" you suggest...The site is dead, all that remains is this community...Now hindsight is 20/20, but had I seen this coming, that’s the route I would have went...People probably would've accepted downloads going away, or being severely limited and required offsite hosting on useless sites that I hate, because no one really downloads much anymore anyways...Then the site would've been a friendly place free of any real advertising, since it wouldn't require funding to pay for itself, I would have paid for it...

Splitting the site is probably the worst idea I've ever heard, it took me forever to merge the sites to keep the community together...Offering hosting is also the worst idea ever...If anyone actually pays you real money for quite possibly the worst web hosting offering I've ever heard of, they deserve exactly what they get...

What else did I read in this thread...The Wiki...The H2 section is easy...Post a link to the White Paper download...If someone has something to add to that, more power to them...

If anyone had stepped up and actually was willing to develop without being given staff status, or free gifts, I could have saved the site, and injected new members...But lets face it, no one was willing, and I doubt anyone is now...At least not anyone who'd actually work instead of just claiming "I'll totally help, honest!..", followed by "I didn't do anything cause I had homework/work/etc"...And if you are, I have this kickass site over at holamods.com that you should develop for...The staff there's not running the site into the ground in a futile attempt to save it from themselves...

You want some constructive criticism, every member that posts a complaint, especially the ones you’ve now painted as having a “complaining attitude about everything just for the sake of complaining” are your dedicated hardcore members...They ARE this site, and every day that passes, they visit less and less...

Well, I'll walk away from this one knowing the power of letting people know what you intend.

What is it about the site that is expensive? The space requirements? The bandwidth needed for hits per day? The bandwidth for downloading files?

Also, yeah; the ads are kinda slow. I think it's specifically those ones that highlight random words and link them to ads. But it's worth having the site, I suppose.

I'd rather have no downloads then all of this bull. I myself visit this site less and less, and it actually puts a grasp on my modding to where I'll say whats the point now... We are the people keeping the site alive, we are the people that view the ads, and we are the people who contribute. This site is nothing but a cafe now. The most active place is the things that don't have to do with Halo modding at all.

The site wasn't destroyed by Halo 3, no one stopped modding Halo 2 because there was a new game. People got sick of what they could not do with Halo 2 because of the restrictions the applications THE COMMUNITY made.

We have done things for Halo 3, there isn't any public progress of Xbox 360 Hard or Soft Modding. There was never a leap to the 360, modifying save is a whole different thing, and If anything Container modding actually gave you a few members.

Why not get some people who know what there doing, and what there talking about in modding so that we can get people back to the site.
I'm sure we can all bunch together and think of some contests, applications, and other ideas that will save the games we can actually modify.

I would love to see progress and change, this site is full of empty hope for things to come along. We need more tutorials on Programming and Modding.

We can't just sit here and wait for The God Of All Modding Applications (Prometheus) because more then likely by the time that's out no one is going to be around. I'm sure Nick and his gang don't care when they release it, hell I really don't care if they do at all.

You're the admin, the staff don't Mod anymore, why do we have a band of blind people running the site?

Anyways, this site is close to over, It's no ones fault really. But we can still give it that jump and try hard to keep it where it needs to be until everyone is ready to let go.

I know this seems very odd, But I am going to side with DarkShallFall, detox, and that crew. If we could work on H2V that would be great, cause then we could ALL mod H2 instead of xbox modding. Our focus should be on Halo 2 Vista.

I have completed layouts for almost every raw type, sound, mode, animation, and BSP meta, and ugh!. I'm working on a new white paper, I just thought a wiki would be more organized and universal.

I have to disagree, they have a fully unlocked guerilla, which is one of two reasons I abandon Gravemind. It is also the same thing as Halo 2 Xbox, so it would be like reinventing the wheel.

Modding H2V is no where near as user friendly as modding Halo 2 xbox was.

And since when was reinventing the wheel a bad thing?

That game is a pain in the ass to get anything to load. I can't figure out the padding scheme so that makes it even harder.

I must say that the new ads are disgusting. I don't want ads popping up while reading posts. And in response to I_F, I honestly would rather have the old server and site down-time than have the community break up.

Meh, someone pointed me to this thread so I figured I might as well reply. After doing the last mod I did for HaloPC i hung up my modding shoes just cause I didn't see anything else of relevance that would make the mod any better then simple tweeks or using gimmick ideas such as implementing Halo 3 type feel to the mod. But even I noticed that during my last days being active on this forum that alot of the activity was generally focused in the cafe and sections not related to Halo modding itself. So for mne it began to look more as a social setting for people who have modded then people who are actually trying to make mods daily. What sealed the deal for me going to another forum for Halo social interaction was when the site was being ran by SG and I began to see those Staff members who I learned to respect of the years start to resign. The one that got me the most was Tural stepping down. Even thoe he may get a bad rep for being brash and coming off as rude, you never could deny the guy was doing his job and trying to keep the peace for everyone as a whole. So when I see someone that was devoted to keeping this site going and "asshole" free, seeing them step down only told me that something was wrong in a big way. I didn't need the details behind it or what fueled it, but as a outsider looking it, it just didn't look good on any aspect.

Adding ad's to the site really has hindered it's load time alot and honestly, Halomods has lost alot of it's charm because of it. While new flash applets on the main page do give it a updated look the rest of it just seems like more eye candy then anything. I myself have been developing websites since 1996 and one big lesson I can tell you is that without content or a stable user base your site is eventually going to die no matter how fancy and flashy it is. Sad thing is that it's starting to happen here now. Most of the modders that were doing groundbreaking things have either moved on with real life or simple found better games to mod. I mean Halo is a awesome series no doubt, but it isn't the most technical and wonderful thing to look at. To me it seems like the new current trend is modding sandbox type games and that's what i have been doing here of lately.

In the end I wish you guys the best of luck trying to keep Halo modding going but as the comments in the thread suggest it looks like the end of days is upon the site. If anything when that time comes it would great to archive the site for future people to read the legacy of Halo modders and what was actually accomplished here rather then the plug being pulled and everything gone.

The whole is only as great as the sum of it's parts, and those parts are drifting away daily.

This.

Hell, I bet most of us would move to a freephpbb site if we had to.

Emblems need to be fixed. They only added positivity to the site and now they don't work.

That sounds like it would be quite a project based on what I've heard about it. I_F is probably the best equipped to fix it.

Yet it hasn't been done due to a lack of time. I wonder what that means.

I don't know what the exact problem is, I just know the emblem distributors cannot distribute emblems.

Iron_Forge seemed to indicate that he didn't know it wasn't working until I pointed it out to him, which leads me to believe he doesn't know/can't confirm the specific source of the problem.
