old topic bumping solution maybe?

Is somebody flaming or causing problems? Is there a post that is too large for content? Moderators will check here often to discover problems quickly.

old topic bumping solution maybe?

Post by Pepsi »

you know how theres always bumping of old topics and get gets kinda annoying?

what if the moderators locked topics that havent seen replies in a months time? like after a month of the last reply to the topic it is automatically locked? this might curb the bumping of old things overcasting newer ones.

and simply something like this when locking to the effect of..

"topic locked due to monthly reply timeout. if the original author of the thread needs to add or update please contact a moderator so we can unlock it for you to edit/update"

just a suggestion tbh ..

It would be extremely time consuming and tedious, even with the Moderator Control Panel.

Also, we aren't going to do it because we'd receive tons of PMs from the author saying they didn't want it locked and a bunch of other crap.

Locking old topics is a gross over-generalization. First of all, there are times when bumping is legitimate. Perhaps a major update, or a new development. If a bump is worthwhile, it is allowed. Furthermore, if there's a bump, you can always report it and it will be taken care of. The report system isn't there just to add a pretty button on posts (Anymore :3).

I think it's a bad idea, but for the Time Tidious thing, I think there is an option for auto locking topics after so long.

well i understand the time consuming efforts that would be needed, in the end it was just a general idea. sometimes old topic bumping is funny thoe cause you see a old mod brought back to the front again.

thanks for hearing me out thoe.

Not without a mod. What you may be thinking of is pruning, which deletes, not locks, old topics, I believe.

Yea, that was it. And that would cause even more problems.

on other forums i have seen a warning upon posting, like:

Warning: this thread hasn't received any replies in X days, blah blah blah

That way nobody has to do any locking, and people actually learn about the rule before the post instead of being yelled at after they break it (assuming they didn't read the rules, which is sadly common...).
Also, like Tural said, there are legitimate bumps, which will still be allowed.

is there some way of implementing this here?

That would probably be the best solution, we'd have to check with I_F about it. See if you can find such a mod designed for Categories Hierarchy mod.
