Uploading Halo 3 films without a capture card.

Post by XxPTLegitxX »

I don't know if anyone has seen this, but I just saw it and thought it was cool. I have tried this and it works.

Go to GeeVee and create an account (It can take up to 24 hours to get the confirmation email, so be patient).
Click on the Grab (Beta) link.
The film file needs to be in your Halo 3 File Share.

To record the video, you can use a program such as HyperCam.

From there, start up GeeVee and find your video (After it has been completed and you have received an email).
Open HyperCam, select the region you want to capture, and begin recording.

After recording is finished, the video will be stored on your hard drive (Probably somewhere in My Documents).

Quality is better than many capture cards. Enjoy.

Tural note:
To download the direct FLV (Flash Video) file, you can view the source of the page, find the URL to the FLV file (Typically the file ID shown in the URL of the video page), and save it that way.
For instance, this video's direct FLV link is
http://www.geevee.com/video/2/13402.flv.

Looks to be what they're doing is downloading the film to a console, then recording it with a capture card and placing it on their server. Interesting concept.

Edit:
XxPTLegitxX wrote:for all the people that said its impossible to do it with out a camara or cap or watever hahah got proven wrong.
No. It is impossible to record video without a capture card. Just because you aren't the one with the card, doesn't mean there isn't one in use. The films are data. To do it without a recording device would require you to have the entire game engine, models, sounds, everything running on your computer. So no, nobody was proven wrong, except you. :3

Hmm...

Seems like you can only do one video at a time. Should've done the longer video first. >_<

Because they are recording the video (Which means if you have a 15 minute video, it takes 15 minutes to record) then uploading it to their server. Factor in the work load they have, and you can understand why it takes so long.

I rewrote the post. If you'd like to adapt this writing of it, I'd be glad to sticky the topic as a guide for all users.

Because they have to record it, and it got posted on Bungie.net, which means they're flooded with thousands and thousands of videos.

Ok, wait. Can someone please explain to me exactly how they do this?

We have a video on our fileshare and then join this GEEVEE website and some kind soul across the WWW boots their box and records it for us?

How does one hook up their box and use hypercam?

I don't get exactly how hypercam relates to being able to record xbox360.

Too bad that they cant just make the video available for download like Zamzar does with youtube (possibly if they ARE using a cap card and uploading it.)

Basically.
You give it the name of the file, it will automatically find the link on Bungie.net, flag it to download, then it will download to a console they have running. From there, they'd have to go to the film, start it, press Record on the computer, let it play, then upload the film to their server, during which it is converted to an FLV and the page is generated for it.

No. Hypercam is mentioned so you can record the video from their web site, since they don't provide a link to download the video file to your computer.

ill3galpr0gram, you can download the FLV file and convert it to a standard format (Or use an FLV-supporting program to play it). You do not have to record it, as my note in the main post says. Or, as you would like, get the link to the FLV file, and put it on Zamzar, which will convert it for you.
