My Take on a Halo 3 Single Player Mod. Check it out!

by l)0l\lu7
NOTE: This is NOT the Halo 3 SP mod currently being made by Sonic!

ALSO: Please read the following and actually try the mod out before criticizing it. The screenshots really don't do the mod justice. You are welcome to comment and critique, but please be intelligent about it. I see people commenting on the weird FOV and how I'm not crediting certain people for their work when I've already discussed all of that below. If you have any other miscellaneous suggestions that can help me out, PLEASE let me know!

EDIT: New pics are up!

Instructions:
Apply each PPF patch to their respective named .map file in your MAPS folder. For example, apply a10.ppf to a10.map and bitmaps.ppf to bitmaps.map. Make sure your .map file is fresh and unedited.

A long time ago I made a mod to capture the essence of Halo 2 on Halo PC, and now I've decided to make a mod that tries to capture what Halo 3 is. So here it is, in all its glory. There are no new weapons, no new vehicles, and no new enemies (read: Brutes), but the gameplay has been changed in numerous ways so as to create a more fun overall Halo 3-like experience. The mod is for every single campaign level. No multiplayer maps, sorry!

Give it a try, it's a lot more fun than it may look, and I hope you enjoy.

Changes:

AI a lot more aggressive this time around (and your marines are generally more useful now too).

New screen darkening/tinting effects when you are near explosions.

Halo 2 HUD -by Hawaiian Pig. Yeah it's not Halo 3, but I suck at doing HUDs.

Vehicles may not instantly kill you and larger foes when ramming,

Mjolnir Mark VI skin -by Kerhalla.

Large reduction of fog on most levels and slightly increased lighting in some environments.

New reticles - some by me, some by Tsuin Taiyou

New plasma firing effect for plasma weapons, plasma grenade and needler.

Melees more effective against Flood (as like in Halo 3).

Basically every weapon and vehicle has been reskinned and retuned. I don't have room to write about them though, so I'll leave you to find them out yourself  . There are a few key changes I feel like mentioning.

Needler - The needles now do damage immediately on impact, no damage on small secondary explosion. However, large explosion occurs almost immediately after target is stuck with 7 needles.

Banshee Fuel Rod - This thing now tracks.

Hunter/Grunt Fuel Rod - Also tracks to give a more "beamlike" feel.

Ghosts and Banshees - These can now be destroyed even if they are unpiloted, so watch your shots if you need to jack that banshee sitting out in the middle of a level!

Bunch of other small random changes that I've probably forgot to mention.

Thanks to:

phoenix -skins and models
Destroyer -skins
Tsuin Taiyou -skins and sounds
Explosive American for the shader restoration.

All of you for trying out this mod!

Known issues:

You'll get an exception error on some levels if you stand still for too long. I don't know why this happens, although it might be due to the new environment effects and the game having trouble loading them. If you move constantly and never stop for more than 10 seconds, you should be fine. Pausing the game when you need to stop also helps.

Random inconsistencies, like pelican exhaust effects on Silent Cartographer and weird super-bright plasma pistol glow on AotCR and Two Betrayals.

AR has no reload/readying sounds. This is a side-effect of having new animations. Remember I did not create the animations, so if you have questions, please ask phoenix.

Ammo meters on HUD and ammo counter on Assault Rifle are off. I'm too nub to fix them, and they won't impact the gameplay much anyway.

Alright, I think that's all. If you want to use anything from this mod, please be sure to give credit to the correct author. For example, if you want to use the Sniper Rifle skin, you MUST give credit to Destoyer.

Hope you like this mod! If you have any other questions, please let me know. Here are some screenshots to tickle your nerve endings :) . DL below screenshots.

Actually Developer we can't just hand out our weapons to anybody or else if PM7 releases anything with those weapons people will say : "Oh a Brute Spiker, Spartan Laser, and Bubble Shield! Oh wait I've used these before, come up with something original."

Also new Assault Rifle, I would like to see that.

3 I don't think this deserves a 10/10. I see bitmap changes but not really good ones and if your calling it an H3 SP mod then you need to add one thing more then just PM7s Assault Rifle. Also if your just making bitmap changes make good ones like pepsi. Anyway I'm not combineing your bitmaps with mine as it could screw up everything for my mod so I'll just stay here and do a 5/10.

dude if you are going to do a Halo 3 SP mod too bad you are late to the party.
1. the AR display is wrong
2. where are the new weapons
3. get a new hud
4. new skins

this is not looking good right now. I have tested for the H3 Combat Evolved and that looks much better, and has new weapons. come on people when are we going to get original and some using other people's stuff (aka the rifle, and the hud) and make some new stuff? You can change the HUD position, so do it I do now want this to be Halo 1.5

Oh boy, you're new, I can tell.
Maybe you should look at more stuff before rating like that man.
6/10

Not to mention the FOV is even more horrible than H2V.

It's not a Halo 3 with the Halo 2 HUD.

4/10(Because those screenshots look terrible)

Alright, well I appreciate the feedback and yes there are no new weapons but I'd prefer that some of you guys gave the mod a try first or actually READ the changes and comments before judging it. And no, the screenshots really don't do the mod justice.

To Amit who mentioned that the FOV looked terrible, I've already mentioned that it was due to the resolution that I used. The actual FOV is unchanged.

Apologies for the fact that some of the screenshots are cut off. I have a widescreen comp and run Halo on a 1600x900 resolution to reduce stretching, with the end result being that part of the bottom and top of the screen get removed :? . DL below screenshots.

I'd try it but where is the reskinned weapons and vehicles in the pics? Plasma effects are easy edits of bitmaps.

Also more melee damage and new reticles don't make a mod fun. Of course the creator of the mod is going to think it's fun that's why you released it but you can't gaurentee (how you spell it) that others will think it is fun. A h2 hud isn't H3 (but I don't know if I could do better on that). Smarter AI was a good idea. Everything else is stuff that just adds to the scenery and doesn't make it fun just nicer looking.

None of the pics do the mod any justice except the first one which I think looks good.

Yes exactly, which is why I need to get some better screenshots in, but it's tough to capture the essence of the AI and the way it's all been retuned, so if anything I'll try to get some new screenies that show off the skins better (and maybe change my screen res too...).

Every weapon has been changed one way or another, but you're right, "guarantee" is a bit overexaggerating ain't it?

:)

That looks pretty simular to H3! Those jerks are looking at how it could be better. I'm looking at how it is. It's pretty good! 9.9/10! The 0.1 is the AR. The numbers are a lil crooked or whatever. Try not making numbers. Try editing the AR's original numbers! Besides for that, GREAT!!!

Not to be rude to double post, but I noticed you spent extra time to put those into ppfs and putting them to all the maps! I'm impressed! You have ALOT of patience buddy!

Blood Demon, you are retarded. that looks nothing like Halo 3. what are you talking about in editing the original numbers?

I've played and beaten Halo 3. I know what I'm talking about. The shee just needs a green reflection. And I was talking about the AR numbers. Also, Dude, (the one who made these mods) Can you make those models and stuff into the multiplayer maps?
