I finally got a workaround for stereo mix although I should have thought of it earlier.

Got a better graphics card (9600gt) :D . I bought two different psu's and tried installing both, only to find out the original worked fine even though it was 50w less. There's a wasp nest in my backyard, hanging over the fence from my neighbours tree. One of them stung my dog. The pest control guy did his stuff, so the wasps should be gone by 48 hours.
